Here we go again... HOSPITAL BAG

I finished packing my hospital bag, but I'd like to know something:

if there is/was one item that is a MUST have that you included (or forgot to include) in your hospital bag, what would it be? I think I covered all the bases, but I just wanted to see if I'm missing anything that you guys thought would be a "must have" item. I'm not talking granny panties or extra bras, I mean that "out of the ordinary" item that I would never think of including...

Thanks!!!

I'm a camera nut- so for me it would be charged batteries, empty memory sticks, video camera and charger, tapes etc....

Also, baby book, cord collection kit ( if you are doing that), list of people to call, blow-dryer, boppy pillow, any meds you are on...etc...

I did with my DS and it was great !....I used it to lay him on , on the bed, but others also use it to assist w/ nursing and it is also helpful if you have a c-section and nurse Chat Icon

I think** someone on here had mentioned that you're allowed to suck on some kind of candy in the hospital. I know they usually just allow you to have ice chips. So I bought some Luden cough drops to bring with me just in case I can use them!

I know I've also read on here to make sure to bring an extra empty bag for all of the things you get to take home from the hospital. I am putting my DH in charge of filling it up!

The nurse that ran my childbirth class suggested those small lolipops, the ones called dum dums. She said they allowed them (at least where I'm delivering). She also said they were also great to put in your cup of ice chips to flavor them.

I'm using one of those big gym/duffle bags that I have... my labor bag (as suggested by the l&d nurse) is a small, vera bradley pull string bag.

Actually, I took those Childbirth Classes by Wendi Andria, who might end up being my L&D nurse at South Side (fingers crossed!!!!) and she gave me a list.

She included the following items:

1. chapstick
2. spray for air (in case the room needs a freshening up)
3. washcloth (hospital ones are stiff/yucky)
4. hair ties
5. high-protein snacks for dad
6. mouthwash/toothbrush
7. socks
8. birthing ball (obviously won't fit in bag)
9. phone list
10. baby book (for first footprints if you have this)
11. music (iPod and iHome) for soothing music during labor
12. camera/charger

In my labor bag, I plan on putting things in there that I might need for actual labor: my insurance card, my c-section class certificate, my glasses ( in case I decide to take out my contacts), etc. It will be a small bag though, like a pocketbook.
