Make it STOP!!
Oh my goodness I dont know what is happening these past 3 days. My DD is just CRYING and I dont know how to console her! She has never been like this before. She is so tired but just wont sleep! Dr. Spok's book said 6-8 weeks were the worst. Did anyone else experience this? She is like a calander if so...just turned 6 weeks on Saturday. Please HELP!!

Re: Make it STOP!!
You think it's only because she's tired?
When you lay her down, does she immediately cry?

Re: Make it STOP!!
Do you think it could be gas?? Hopefully it passes soon! I've had a couple of days around 8 weeks where DS was fussy all day long but I think it was gas, and he wouldn't sleep at ALL!

Hmmm i don't know. Has anyone been sick lately? Could she have an ear infection?
I know that around 5 weeks i think it was, we found out ds had acid reflux so for him... laying flat would be bothersome to him.
Maybe try putting her in the boppy. Maybe she likes the close comfort and maybe the boppy will give that to her and give you a break!

Re: Make it STOP!!
Right around the same time DD had some doozies...just as you're describing...nothing worked.
Sometimes she would calm down if I swaddled her, walked around the house with her belly on my arm...I had to do that for 2 hours one day...
Could be gas...
could be reflux...
could be constipation...
could be a combination...
Have you given her mylicon?

Re: Make it STOP!!
Oh I remember those few weeks. DD turned 5 weeks and was a nightmare. Would not stop crying, only wanted to be held. I wanted to kill everyone that said they all go through it and there is nothing you can do but - they were right!! Just try to hold her when you can but it's okay to let her cry for a few minutes if you need a break.

Re: Make it STOP!!
Could she be hungry? My DS went through a growth spurt at 6 weeks and I remember would cry because he was hungry. After the week was over, he went back to his usual feeding schedule.

Re: Make it STOP!!
I heart all of you for your responses. I am going to the pedi tonight for a vaccination (that will be AWSOME). Im going to talk to him about it. I swaddle her but I think she hates it...but I do it at night when she goes to sleep. It sounds like shes grunting trying to get out of it...but Im not sure if its the swaddle that pisses her off or she has gas. I do have mylicon and I gave her some today. Im watching her on the monitor just laying there watching her mobile in her swaddle. She will not sleep but I know shes tired. Im hoping its a growth spurt. I have just realized that she is beginning to hate her formula. I give her a bottle of breast first, then formula and she spits out the bottle. At night she gets straight formula without that first bottle of bm so she drinks the whole bottle. So now Im thinking she may infact be hungry but just not wants to eat her formula Can she just change her mind like that? I need a REALLY BIG DRINK.

Re: Make it STOP!!
I would try a different formula.
When DS was little we had a can of liquid formula that we tried on him before I went back to work (he was BFd but in case of emergency we always carried this can in his bag).
It was the WORST few hours of our Life! The poor guy was in so much pain. I tried Similac Soy and he had never had a problem.

Re: Make it STOP!!
Right around the 6th week mark DS cried for days. I switched his formula and he was fine after that.
Hope it works out just as easily for you

Re: Make it STOP!!
DD had periods where nothing would calm her down. It turned out to be gas. Mylicon worked a little. My SIL said that I MUST try gripe water..well..... it was my miracle for a couple weeks. I would give her a little and it was like I gave her a sleeping pill....lol She would relax and sleep. Luckily...we didn't need it anymore after about 2-3 wks.

Re: Make it STOP!!
My DD was exactly like this. I was going nuts because I couldn't even lay down for 5 minutes. This was my only savior.
The swing didn't work in the beginning either. They sell it at BRU.

Re: Make it STOP!!
Why are you giving the BM and formula separately? Just mix them together for that feeding. BM is MUCH sweeter than formula, so if you are switching from BM to formula its no wonder she's spitting it out.
6 weeks is usually the peak of fussiness in all babies (according to Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child). It was the same for Eliza. Now at 9 weeks, she's still a fusspot at times, but nowhere NEAR as bad as she was from 5-7 weeks.

I agree with mixing the two...for all reasons stated...
The only bottle I ever gave just formula was her last bottle, but she had been accustomed to the taste from day one (my milk came in late)...
I also wanted to add - one thing that also worked wonders was a nice warm bath...I would put the J & J Lavender Bedtime Bath in it and it was like a wonder drug...if I could have kept her in the tub all day, I would have!!!!!!!!

At first I was mixing the two...then the pedi told me NOT to because there were no studies done showing that formula may destroy some of the benifits of the bm...yada yada. Im thinking I may go back to mixing. Ill talk to them tonight. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH for your advice!! We just got back from a long ride to nowhere where I listened to some coldplay and she napped. It was a good time for us both
