sorry its so long but i need your advice
So i dont post that often, but i need your opinions. I have been having fertility issues for 17 months. I have been to my OB for 4 months and i have currently been seeing an RE for the last 4 months. At my last visit, he spoke to me about my different options( since i have had 3 failed IUI's...he said i could do injections with IUI, IVF and a Laparoscopy. He is pushing me to have IVF done..since i am young, soon to be 28....i thought i should have a laparoscopy first, but he said to try one round of IVF first...i have been looking into IVF and a few sites are telling me that at couples are successful by the 3rd time...i only get 3 IVF's in my lifetime that are covered 75%....im so nervous to do IVF and have it not work and waste a round of it...is he just trying to get me to do IVF cause he wants my money? Or is it the right time to do it? Im confused and thought you guys have had some experience with this....sorry it is so long...

Re: sorry its so long but i need your advice
I think you should consult with another RE.... You should have had the laparoscopy before trying even one IUI, and moving straight to IVF may or may not be a little extreme without knowing your history. An IUI will increase your chances of conceiving approx. 10%, IVF approx. 50%, but these statistics don't count if you have endo or blocked tubes.
As I said, I would get another opinion - asap....

I'm not sure who you are seeing now...I've been going to Dr. Kenigsberg at LI-IVF and absolutely love him...I'm 43 and he's gotten me PG once already...plus he's very thorough and honest. Before that, I was going to RSNY and they did very little testing. They were all about just moving forward without really testing for anything...I left there very upset and was extremely happy when Dr. K explained what they should have done.

Re: sorry its so long but i need your advice
I agree with everyone have the lap
after that if you do need to try IVF, the 3 cycles are probably for stim cycles. Most girls can do one stim cycle and retrieve enough eggs that they can freeze then use for frozen transfers. So 1 stim cycles may actually work out to 2-3 additional FETs.
Good luck!!

Re: sorry its so long but i need your advice
First off sorry for the failed IUI's. I couldn't tell from your post if you used Clomid with IUI or did unmedicated IUI's. I tried IUI with Clomid and injections before doing IVF. I did not have a lap done but I did have tons of testing before doing IVF. Do you have a diagnosis for your IF or are you unexplained?

I would say go for a second opinion and see what is said. I am not big on surgery but if you want to be sure that IVF is your only or best option then the lap is probably the way to go. GL!!

Re: sorry its so long but i need your advice
I did one round of clomid and one round of injections/iui before moving straight to ivf. I did not have a lap done, I didn't have an hsg. Dr. Kenigsberg felt I should just do ivf. I listened, it worked the first time and I am almost 7 weeks pregnant.
If you trust your doctor, I would listen. If you really have a gut feeling that you should do the lap, talk to your doc. If he objects- then get a second opinion.

Re: sorry its so long but i need your advice
hey guys..thanks so much! Ok so i ended up making an apointment with northshore IVF...i just want to make sure that i did everything i could before going to IVF- i feel that IVF is like the last resort and i dont want to jump into it. To answer some questions- i did chlomid with IUI 4 times....actually awaiting results for last IUI- we find out in a week...and i have unexplained IF....they told me to start looking into other options, so i dont waste time....i guess i will see what happens with the new RE...thankls again for all that helped out.

I also had unexplained IF after going through all of the standard testing. Since you have already done 4 IUI's with Clomid without success, that treatment is probably not going to work for you. My RE said that after 3 tries of any treatment, it's time to move on. Your next step could be injections with IUI or you could go straight to IVF. Best of luck!
