Erin is almost 17 months old and not really talking yet. Chat Icon

She will say Da-da, and some approximations (ha for hat, tee for teeth, and a couple of others), but no real words.

I am just so nervous about going through everything all over again with her, that we have done with Ry (who has a bad speech delay). I know it's not the end of the world at all, but I see how frustrated Ryan gets, and I just don't want Erin to have to go through it all.

I know she still has plenty of time, and word explosions can happen closer to two years of age, but I just can't help to be a little concerned.

The one thing is, that at her age, Ryan was saying NOTHING. Only grunting, so at least she is beyond that.

She's still very young and if she's trying to communicate and making sounds I woudn't worry to much. I would talk to your sons speech teacher and get some tips to try to motivate her to speak.

Cailen is a jabber mouth now at 21 months - but even by 19 months, he wasn't talking as much as he is now! Chat Icon

Re: I'm starting to get nervous about DD

Hi,
I'm a mom and an slp and totally understand your concern. First be reassured that she's using some word approximations, that's a great sign. Second does she babble alot putting strings of syllables together that sound like conversation? This is a prerequisite to words that should be in place.

If you ever have any questions please feel free to fm and I'd be happy to answer or give you any strategies I can.
