I Had to Stop the Prenatals
I would take them at night before bed, stomach was reasonably full since I eat on the late side. I would wake up with pain and cramps. I have crohns to begin with and I've never been able to take multi-vitamins because all of them bother my gut.
So for the last few nights I didn't take them and I felt better.
So, should I just take some folic acid and Bs? Should I call the doc?
I don't know what the doc would say since there hasn't been a multi that ever agreed with me.
I just want to make sure I'm covered. I guess it's not the worst thing not to take them. I just ordered a month's supply too.

Re: I Had to Stop the Prenatals
I would call your doc if he wants you on them. But I didn't start taking prenatals until I was I think 5 weeks, and it didn't hurt me. I would definitely do folic acid, though.

Re: I Had to Stop the Prenatals
I don't have Crohn's but I do have IBS and I take chewables. They have much less stuff in them than the pill form, but they have what you need. They taste a little gross and they are prescription called Nurtrinate Chewables. And I cannot take them with food. I have to take it 1 hr b/f a meal or 2-3 hrs after. Which is kinda annoying. I have taken them b/f bed but I feel like they get in my teeth (OK, I'm a clean teeth fanatic). I am taking it mostly b/c I could not swallow the pre-natal pills. Though I am getting better as taking pills these days.
Give it a try maybe.
You are getting close to starting your patches, aren't you??????

Re: I Had to Stop the Prenatals
You should be on them, especially because of your age. They help prevent things like spinal bifida, etc. Call your Dr. and see if he can give you a chewable.

Re: I Had to Stop the Prenatals
Mine (Prima Care One) actually say to take them on an empty stomach and not to lay down for a half hour afterwards, which would be exactly opposity of what you're doing, could it be that yours say that too?

Re: I Had to Stop the Prenatals
thanks all. I'll see about the chewables.
I hope they are better.
I start patches in about 10 days.
After the way my gut was feeling i was not so convinced I wanted to start sticking myself with needles at all!

Re: I Had to Stop the Prenatals
I never had reaction to the injectibles and I sometimes wonder if its b/c of the acupuncture. I get a little bloating, mostly cause my ovaries are getting larger. You'll be fine. It's easy, you don't even feel it. (though then I also am thinking I never get that many mature eggs, that could have some to do with why i dont' have much reaction to the meds - oh well, I'm no help, am I?)

Re: I Had to Stop the Prenatals
I am only 4 days post transfer....but my MD does not like prenatal 2* too much iron....also I am allergic to nickel so my MD said I need at least 800mg of folic acid, b complex, a little A,C, D and E wouldnt hurt. I found a great gummy bear vitamin with exactly the above...at Target....called Vita-chews....I take 4 a day and have no issues! These are new.
