Alternative jobs...
I'm graduating in May and I'm concerned over finding a job...I know I can sub but I did that all this year and I don't want to do it again...
I'm just planning in my mind for a worst case scenario here...What are some jobs that teachers usually move towards if they can't find a teaching job? I still plan on looking as much as I can and going on interviews, but I know budgets are being cut and times are tough...
I guess what I'm asking is what other occupations traditionally would look at someone with a Masters in Education and some teaching experience as a person they would like to hire ?
Sales? Marketing? Burger King??

Re: Alternative jobs...
i worked in student affairs for three years after i had my degree. granted, it was a career i was possibly interesting in pursuing lieu of teaching, but so many of the skills are transferable...the age group is just college kids. i also was an RA as an undergrad. and otherwise very involved, so that helped me land a few jobs. i really enjoyed it. there were some good perks too especially: tuition remission for myself, and on-campus apartment, meal plan, etc. because i worked specifically in residence life. if res. life doens't interest you, things like student activities, career office, campus ministry, all usually require an MS Ed.

Re: Alternative jobs...
I worked in publishing after i got my BA in teaching.
What about trying to find a Teaching Assistant job - there is a certification for that. My district likes to hire certified teachers as TAs, so that they can cover classes in emergencies.

I work for Gymboree Play and Music to supplement my income while subbing during the week, but I've been with them for awhile. A dare care or early childhood learning center may be a good place to start.

Tutor - either through a district or independantly. Sub. Work as a TA. Work at the college or Pre-K level. If you have the time and ability, you could do some volunteer work also.
Good luck!!!
