Mouthing EVERYTHING !
This is just getting WORSE. And no one seems to have much insight. The Speech therapist felt it is a sensory issue for sure and reccomended the "chewy tube"...which we got and so far he is not taking to it at all.
This goes on all day long. He bites, tastes or chews everything he comes into contact with...every toy, every table, chair, handle, thing he picks up. I cant even exagerrate how much he does this. The germ factor alone makes it bothersome, but often what he is chewing on is not HIS and other parents , places etc are annoyed.
I try the phrase "no mouth" ...and swipe is hand away from his mouth and he seems to know its not right but its like an external force pulls it back to his mouth.
Wondering if any speech therapists or OT's have advice on how to get past this?
I was told to try to stimulate him at that moment too, but more often then now, that is just not an option, based on where we are or what we are doing.
Thanks.
OH BTW- he is 20 months.

Everytime he chews on something and you give him the chewy tube, he wont take it?? Have you tried a vibrating chewy?

Re: Mouthing EVERYTHING !
I definitely agree its probably a sensory issue. That said, what specifically is he chewing on? Does he prefer to chew on hard surfaced objects like the edge of a table, really hard plastic toys etc.? or does he prefer to chew on softer more pliable items that are made of rubber, foam, etc.? It may be that the chew tube is not giving the sensory input that he's craving and that's why he's not taking to it. Let me know what kind of textures he prefers and I'll help problem solve with you the best I can. HTH

It seems like harder objects, but it truly is everything. all day long he has something in his mouth. But things liek his toys and books are more common and tables and chairs.
We have tried having the chewy tube ready and give it to him and he just brushes it away. If I kinda forcefully stick it in his mouth he will take it and start chewing on it....but after 2-3 minutes he doesnt want it anymore and never picks it up randomly to bite where as everything else he does.

Re: Mouthing EVERYTHING !
My ds went through this as well and he actually didn't stop until right before three years old. I bought the cold teethers (the ones you stick in the freezer or fridge) and that seemed to help.
