Pain in left side/stomach?

Hi everyone-
I am an infrequent poster but I was hoping someone can give their advice. I am almost 38 weeks and as of Tuesday I was making some progress (2 1/2 cms and 50 percent effaced). I woke up this morning with a shooting pain in my left side/stomach and it has pretty much been there all day, although it gets much better in certain positions (like when I am sitting down). I was thinking its gas or the baby's position, but now I am wondering if I should be concerned. Did anyone have this before they went into labor? My next appt is Tuesday morning. (Although this is my second child, last time my water broke and I really didn't have any contractions/pain before going to the hospital)

So wierd, cause a little while ago I felt what you described on my left side. I am 39 weeks. I couldn't really straighten too fast. It has subsided now, but it was very strange.

Also - I felt a wierd pain the other day and the nurse at dr's office told me the baby could be in a wierd spot, kicking on something, etc.

Thanks for the reply. The pain gets better when I am sitting down so I am guessing it is the way the baby is positioned....
