Re: Chron"s
I know how hard it is to go through that. I went through a period for a couple years where I'd have those symptoms on and off. Sometimes it would last for a month, sometimes just when I ate something that set it off. My gastro through it was Crohn's and put me on Asacol, but then with all the testing(small bowel series, colonoscopy and endocapsule tests), determined it was IBS, and took me off the medicine. I have "episodes" brought on by stress, or certain foods, but recently it's easier to deal with.
Can they give you anything to help you get some relief from the symptoms you've been dealing with? It's hard on you mentally and emotionally, not just physically, to feel so terrible all the time (at least, it was for me). I hope this second opinion/testing will help get you a proper diagnosis/treatment soon!

Re: Chron"s
crohns is different for everyone, but your symptoms are classic. I have all of those except the weight loss.
I wish you lots of luck in getting to the bottom of it. While you are waiting to find out, can the doc give you a anti-spasmodic? That will help a bit.

Re: Chron"s
Thanks for the responses He has given me an anti-spasmatic pill I forget the name but it's a tiny blue pill. I think my weight loss is from when I am not feeling well I don't eat as much as I should. Because of the pain or the fear of running to the bathroom. If it is Chron's would he be able to tell me right away after the clonoscopy or do I have to wait for a biopsy?

Re: Chron"s
If it really is crohns he should be able to tell from the colonoscopy, however, if your issue is high up in your small intestine, he may not be able to tell.
Only a small bowel series test can get to those spots.
Don't despair though. There are medications out there that really help and can give you your quality of life back.
Please let me know if you have questions or need any info.
I've had crohns for 28 years.

Hi I am sorry you are going though this. My husband has Chrons and he's had it for many years. He was very sick and went from doctor to doctor trying to figure out what exactly he had, at some point he almost had surgery. But finally he found a doctor who diagnosed him and literally saved his life and my husband still goes to him. The DR is in Manhattan, he doesn't take insurance but he is THE best in the country and has written countless books on the subject and he is worth every penny. If you'd like more info feel free to FM me and I 'll give you the name and #.

Re: Chron"s
I'm on asacol & 6mp for my Crohn's... Crohn's is different for everyone- but those are definitely the trademark signs, as is nightsweats and random fevers.. Have you tried modifying your diet for the time being to alleviate some symptoms?
Good luck!!

Re: Chron"s
I have been having all those symptoms (minus the weight loss) for well over a year. I just went for a colonoscopy Friday. They did 4 biopsies which I'm waiting for results & follow up visit next week. I am so, so fed up. I wish you much luck in finding relief! I have waited far too long to go to the Dr for fear of the dreaded exam. I am so glad I have finally mustered up the courage. Did they look into celiac disease and colitis as well?

Re: Chron"s
Yes, I was tested for both and they came back negative. I will have another colonoscopy since the first dr did not check for Chrons. The test is on the 19th I believe. Good luck on trying to figure out whats going on. I know all too well how stressful it can be trying to get someone to figure out whats wrong. Keep me posted.
