Have you ever played battleship with your class? You can use it for any subject. It's like the board game, where the object of the game is to name coordinates on a grid in order to try to hit and sink and teacher's "battleships." But in order to try to make a hit, the student has to first get the answer to a question right. I usually play by dividing the class into 2 teams. But even though only one student is responsible for answering a question at a time, all of the kids try to solve it, because if the child gets it wrong, then his team has one more chance to answer. And if they don't get it, then the other team gets to try to answer it. I played this with my class as a student teacher and also as a substitute teacher, and kids usually get into it.

Well not sure about w/ 6th grade, but w/ 3rd, we'd do "spelling/math/anything baseball". Two teams, one team lines up by my desk & I give him/her a question & if they answer correctly they go to first (another spot in the room), if not they get an out. We keep score, but its more about the review.

1. Trashketball - if they get the answer to a ques right they can shoot for a 3pter or 2pter.

2. Musical chairs - put problems on index cards, tape them to the desks, play your ipod. When the ipod stops they move desks. Of course, you determine the order in which they move, whole row back, whole row, left to right. They need paper to work the problems on. I have a template I use so we can go over the problems, (we all have the same #1 because the cards are numbered)

3. Jeopardy - you can go old school with index cards taped to the board. Dollar amt on the front and question on the back or I have a powerpoint template if you can use it.
