Less work load or medication?

Since we're talking about the economy, I just need to vent a little and get some neutral opinions. With layoffs, my department of 4 is now a department of 1 (me ) My workload is absolutely ridiculous and it's to the point that I'm suffering from anxiety attacks. I fear I may suffer from some kind of heart attack because the palpitations are getting progressively worse. It's to the point that I'm considering asking my dr for anxiety medication.

At the same time, maybe I should tell my boss that the workload is too much. But with layoffs, I don't want to seem like the weak one that can't handle it. I'm just grateful I still have my job and I don't want to put that in jeopardy.

Should I just get medication or talk to my boss and if so, how do I approach him without coming across as not being able to get the job done?

Not knowing what your boss is like it's hard to say.

If he/she is a good person and you feel comfortable speaking to them, go for it. Explain that you are grateful to have a job but that it's becoming overwhelming for you.

If they're not an approachable person, I would see your doc.

But I would also start looking for a new job. This one doesn't sound like it's very good for you.

If your boss is not approachable/willing/able to hire on more staff, I'd stay but be actively seeking employment elsewhere.

No job is worth your sanity. Ever.
