If you have sensitive teeth

What kind of toothpaste do you use? Lately my teeth have been so sensitive to cold foods. I know I need to get my butt to the dentist but my insurance doesn't kick in till next month.

Re: If you have sensitive teeth

Im a dental hygienist and so many people have this problem - from just recession or whitening the key is u have to continue using the product for sensitivity. if u stop it the sensitivity will come back.
Sensodyne toothpaste is good. After you brush rinse out with water then dab ur toothbrush with a small amount of sensodyne and spit it out. Dont rinse the toothpaste out. let it bathe ur teeth for at least half hr.
Also u can try using act fluoride rinse at night b4 u go to bed. Dont eat or drink after rinsing with it.
If sensitivity continues there is a prescription toothpaste called Prevident that works wonders... Much stronger than sensodyne.

HTH!!!

Thanks I'll give it a shot. Should I be putting the toothpaste directly on my teeth or the gums? Also how soon should I be noticing a difference if it's going to work?

I used to use Sensodyne but it didn't work too well for me. I've since switched to Crest ProHealth and have no complaints.

I brush with Sensodyne. It works as long as I use it consistently. I'd like to try the method you mentioned. I just wanted to say that if you just brush with Sensodyne it will help after a while! Also, I have had treatments at the dentist's office for hypersensitivity. I used to brush too often, like an OCD type of thing Chat Icon . I have gotten better about that and the sensitivity improved.

Aquafresh makes a Sensitive toothpaste too - cheaper than Sensodyne but worked for me!
