Re: Tell me about Hempstead, NY Cathedral Ave and Fulton Ave
I know the area well. If you're close to Fulton Ave it's not the greatest but going down Cathedral toward Garden City is very nice.

Re: Tell me about Hempstead, NY Cathedral Ave and Fulton Ave
Thats where I went to high school (SHA). Back in '91, the area up by Hempstead Tpke/Fulton was pretty sketchy.

I went to HS there to but a million years ago. Still frequent the area.
1 block north of Hempstead Tpke and you're fine - beautiful area. I actually looked into the apartments there quite a few years ago.

Re: Tell me about Hempstead, NY Cathedral Ave and Fulton Ave
Ok, like some of the ladies, I went to HS right there. I always felt safe in the area, maybe I was a little naieve. I would wait on the corner of Fulton and Cathedral for the N32 bus home some night after my basketball practice. There is now a shopping center with a Chuck E Cheese, Stop and Shop, Home Depot, Old Navy, etc. where the A&S used to be.
The Catherdral Gardens area of West Hempstead is really nice.
Are you talking north of Fulton on Cathedral? That's a very nice area running into the Garden City area.

Re: Tell me about Hempstead, NY Cathedral Ave and Fulton Ave
Honestly it's not a great area and I wouldn't buy/live there. If possible try looking in Garden City? it's right down the road and a great area.

This is true - the closer you are to the Turnpike, the less desirable the area, but as you go north, and get closer to Garden City, the houses and the neighborhood are really nice. Of course Garden City is very nice, but as soon as you cross the border into the GC school district the price of the houses jumps considerably.
I grew up pretty close to here and still have family that lives not far away. The thing you have to keep in mind is that the school district really is not good. I would have considered living in this area if I wouldn't have had to pay for private school in addition to the taxes.

Re: Tell me about Hempstead, NY Cathedral Ave and Fulton Ave
This is probably one of the worst if not the worst areas in Nassau County.
My family owns a business in Hempstead and I know the area very well.
Stay away!!!!

Re: Tell me about Hempstead, NY Cathedral Ave and Fulton Ave
The closest to Hempstead tnpk = the least desirable. Garden City South is not far from there, just North to the turnpike and it's a really nice area.

Re: Tell me about Hempstead, NY Cathedral Ave and Fulton Ave
you may want to consider Franklin Square and WEST Hempstead - both nice areas in the Franklin Square School District.
If you're just interested in Nassau consider Plainview - nice area as well.

Re: Tell me about Hempstead, NY Cathedral Ave and Fulton Ave
I guess it depends on why your going there.. If you are planning to move there (North of Hempstead tpke) its ok.. If you are asking because you are going to visit or pick up a bird or something I think you will be fine.. My Brother and SIL live in the Gardens on Cathedral they are fine.. Its Fulton that is not good. You should have Fm'd me I would have let you know this.

Just to correct this, a very small section of West Hempstead is in the FS school district - on the western border. West Hempstead has its own school district, and most of the town falls in the WH school district.

Re: Tell me about Hempstead, NY Cathedral Ave and Fulton Ave
I also went to SHA and Cathedral Ave is actually very nice neighborhood, a couple of my friends live in the Cathedral Gardens apts, and they feel very safe. I think as you go further east or south into Hempstead it gets sketchy.
