Acorn Ponds on Shelter Rock Rd
Is anyone familiar with this development? I drove through recently and it really looks nice. However, when checking online I saw that 47 units have been sold there in the past two years. It isn't a huge development, although I don't know how many units there actually are. We all know how bad the economy is but that is a huge number of units recently sold. My husband is telling me to totally forget about it. If so many people are selling, something must be really wrong with that area. Any information would really be appreciated. Thanks.

It is a really nice area and a nice development. They are pretty expensive for condos though IMO. Im not sure why so many units sold recently but I doubt it has anything to do with the area at all.
Maybe you can talk to a RE agent who is familiar w/ the area and they can find out more details for you.
HTH.

Re: Acorn Ponds on Shelter Rock Rd
Mrs. A, I agree Acorn Ponds is expensive but the gated ones on Shelter Rock, Searington Rd. and Meadowbrook Pointe in Westbury are even more so. I'm not looking for a gated community but I don't want a building situation either. I would like my own unit with its own separate entrance. A duples would be great where I would have two floors. If you can think of any I would really appreciate it. Thanks very much.

Re: Acorn Ponds on Shelter Rock Rd
The area is beautiful! That is considered North Hills and I am 99% sure that all the condos are in the Herricks school district. I know a few people in that development and I've never heard any complaints. That seems like a high number sold. Maybe it's an error? I'd check with a REA b/c that honestly doesn't seem right. It's not a very large development to begin with so for that many sold in a year sounds off.

Re: Acorn Ponds on Shelter Rock Rd
my grandma lived there for about 20 years. (she moved out after she got too ill to climb the stairs). i think the elderly people are moving out and new/young families are moving in.
it's very nice in there--there's a club house and an indoor and outdoor swimming pool and a tennis court.

Re: Acorn Ponds on Shelter Rock Rd
Thanks everyone. Actually I found a site that lists each house that was sold with the address, date and price. I counted them up myself and was shocked to find 47 sold in a two year period. I will see what my agent thinks of it. If anyone knows of other condos I would love to hear about them

Re: Acorn Ponds on Shelter Rock Rd
We live in a complex in Suffolk, but I don't think 47 is that high for 2 years, depending on how large the complex is. Right now there are almost 30 condos for sale in my complex--it doesn't mean anything is wrong with the complex; people move for various reasons. Some older people are leaving to live with family, etc., and some younger families are choosing to move to houses.

Re: Acorn Ponds on Shelter Rock Rd
I grew up near Acorn Ponds and they are considered upscale condos. The school district is Herricks. The number of units recently sold has nothing to do with a bad area, I can assure you of that. Probably just old people trying to cash in on their property in order to move to Florida.
