Icecream killer story...

So I was reading how they have the driver that ran over this little boy in Brooklyn. The driver ran over the little boy while he was crossing the street to buy iceream...

I have one question...what was this little boy doing crossing the street by himself???

You know, that's a very good question actually. When my brothers and I were little, my mother would walk us across the street to get the ice cream man and our street wasn't even busy! Where oh where have the parenting skills gone?

I was never allowed to cross the street by myself either at that age. My mom or dad walked me across the street. My mom even walked me to school until 8th grade!

Why aren't these kids being watched when they are outside???

my 7 yr old wants to jet across the street all the time by himself. I think its a thing for the kids to be independant they dont realize what can happen even after telling them several thousand times, not so much for the parents. Yes I think his parents should have been by his side, yes they probably drilled into his head look both ways but unfortunately the guy should not have been speeding and the ice cream truck should have had one of those stop/caution signs that jet out from the left side when he stops. these are all my opinions

And if someone is familiar with queens and knows main st., my son wants to cross that without holding my hand and I have to yell at him in the street to hold it. He tells me Im embarrasing him and I say I want to know your safe.

Oh yes queens is full of many dangerous streets. All i'm saying is that someone should have been there to watch this kid.

Yes you can drill it into them about looking both ways before you cross but when the icecream truck is there kids get excited and distracted.

i know this girl i use to work with who lost her 1 and a half year old daughter to an ice cream man. it was horrible! i refuse to let my daughter get them unless they park right in front of my house and i am there! the day it happen i just so happen to be at the hospital where they brought the child(i was there with my sister who had a bad asthma attack) and i went outside to make a call and my daughter was with me. she loved to see the hellicopters as they landed(she was about 5 at they time) so as they got to unload i see that it's a baby and cringed , i turned my daughter away and cried. why i thought it was because it' was a baby but as the family rolled in i relised it was a co worker! i was heart broken for her and the family!

this is what worries me about the little girls accorss the street from us - they range in age from 3 mos. (obviiously she cna't walk in the street, let alone anywhere else! ) to 5 yrs old. (and there are five of them!)

they run into the street and the middle three are really too young to understadn the safety thing b/c it is not enforced by their parents - dh and i feel we take on that role when are out b/c we get so scared they will be hit and when they come over to say hi and see what we are doing, we have to remind them to look both ways, or we try to walk them over ourselves..meanwhile, their mom and dad are in the house, somewaht watching from the window, but still....it only take a half second...

While I usually agree with parents should be watching their kids I think this story is different. The kid was being watched by a parent. The parent sent him to get more money they watched him cross the street on his way back (while they still watched) a car came around the corner and SWERVED into him.

Why would you go flying by an ice cream truck anyway Im pretty young sometimes I do drive a little fast but NEVER by an Ice cream truck. I always come to a complete stop.

Even worse is the moron kept going! AND he and the childs father worked and rode motorcycles together.

I don't think this is the parents fault!! Had they been in the house not giving a crap maybe.

On the evening of April 26, Charles had been standing by an ice cream truck on Milford Street when Baranek sent him across the street to get money. When he was coming back with the money, he apparently saw a car heading toward him and tried to step out of the way, but the white Chrysler sedan swerved at him and hit him, his parents said. They watched as Charles flew into the air, bounced across the hood of the car, and was hit a second time.
