What do you call "worksheets?"
My very old school instructor told me that "worksheets" has become such a negative term. I guess I can see where she is coming from BUT....her only other example was a Funsheet!
What do you call worksheets?

I'm sorry, but give me a break lady! So now it's "negative" to expect your students to...gasp...WORK?!
As for me, I have never given it any thought--I probably called them either worksheets or handouts.

Re: What do you call "worksheets?"
I remember recieving a memo from admin last year at a NYC public school stating worksheets were considered "busy" work and that they wanted to limit that.
But at my job now they much rather us use worksheets. So Ive been worksheet crazy this year, my piled of things to be copied every week is ridiculous, but hey thats what they want.
I call them worksheets, nothing fancier than what they are

Re: What do you call "worksheets?"
I call them either: handouts, worksheets, activities, or readings. Someone worksheets have specific names like "Do Nows"
My first year (3 years ago) I called them dittos, but my students all gave me weird looks.

I totally agree! For example, I hate how now they're trying to move us away from red pens because they're too "negative" and now there's something wrong with "worksheet"!!!
These kids need to learn that in the real world, people work, and life isn't all fun and games!!!!

Re: What do you call "worksheets?"
ditto is antiquated because we don't use ditto machines anymore.
a worksheet is just that--a worksheet. doesn't matter what you call it, it is still a worksheet. i call them worksheets or activities--depends what it is. calling them something different doesn't change what they are.

Re: What do you call "worksheets?"
I probably say worksheet. I make a lot of graphic organizers, which I call my name. I give lots of handouts (I have no textbooks) so I will say something descriptive- vocabulary worksheet, response sheet, review sheet.
I don't think worksheet is a negative word.

I agree!!! Yes, hands on is good to intro a concept but then it's time to use what you learned on a worksheet. What I don't get is if the school district doesn't want us to use worksheets then why do they supply students with textbooks and workbooks (which is a collection of worksheets)? It seems like a waste of tax payers' money to not use them. I do find that some pages have way too many questions and I will usually have them do the evens only. (If they can do 15 problems correctly they could probably do 30 correctly also)
I'm was trained also to stay away from red pens. --but you know what? My purple and green pens are probably doing the same "damage" that the red pens from our past did.

Re: What do you call "worksheets?"
I also agree that it is a bit much to think that teachers are imposing too much on students by giving out "worksheets". We really do look at this teacher funny when she says some things.
She has said some other really radical things too! We just all look like this
I also think the whole red ink thing is ridiculous! Fine! Change the color to then make yet another color have a negative reputation!

I used the ink thing to my advantage. I use a different color for each subject. Helps the organization a littl ebit
