i am posting this and i am sorry if it hurts you or scares you but

i just read that some people are scared to go to certin docs. well i have to say this because it really touches me in every way!
my aunt because she was scared of the gyno never went! now she is on her last days of what could have been very well prevented!
i too have suffered from cancer but i caught it in time!

please just go to the docs! even if you are scared it can save your life!
sorry if this offends someone but i am losing someone who was very dear to me! and i do not want it to happen to anyone else!

Janet...I totally agree with you! I come from a family of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it.' which can be both good and bad. I've heard of people who died because they were told they were dying. At the same time, my mother and grandmother don't believe in skin cancer. well, they do, but out of sight out of mind. It drives me nuts. So much these days can be prevented or even cured!!!

I, on the other hand, am afraid of the dentist. I hate the dentist. The sound of the drill... but I take care of my teeth and when they bother me, I go. An ounce of prevention...you know the rest!

My sister and I fight with my mother regularly about getting a mamogram and colonoscopy

I COMPLETELY agree, Janet. Here's another example.

My grandmother hadn't seen a doctor since her youngest child had been born 30 years earlier. Smoked like a chimney. I should also mention that my grandfather was a Psychiatrist, and probably prescribed antibiotics or whatnot when she'd get sick.

Anyway, the morning of the first night of Chanukah 98 (Sunday), she had a stroke first thing in the morning. Mild. Not supposed to be overly debilitating. However, once she went to the hospital we found out that she had Pneumonia, the beginnings of Enphysema, and either diabetes or Pancreatic Cancer (the doctors didn't have enough time to test). The stroke damage got worse over the week and she died that Saturday night.

It is WAY too important to see your doctor every year. It helps avoid the truly scary stuff.

Hey, Janet, until you can get a new keyboard, if you can't get your caps lock off, hold the shift button down while you type. That way, even if caps lock is on, it shifts backwards to lowercase.

THANKS! I have to admit I am one of those people and I know I should go to the doctor more, I am not as good as I should be. Its weird my theory now is that I am "young" and don't have kids so it isn't as important, its not like I am someone responsible for other lives, but I know that is a poor excuse. I wil try to call for both dh and i this week. So sorry to hear about your aunt, lots of thanks and s to you for having to go through this, and for calling us out too.
