Am I really the only person who

Hasn't read Harry Potter.Twilight. Blood series and all the other vampire book(I know Harry Potter isn't vampire book)?
I LOVE to read and always in search of a new book , but I have no desire or interest to read these books . I actually have collection of Harry potter books in a box set I got as a gift and I haven't even opened itChat Icon
I remember when everyone was going crazy about Harry Potter books and I couldn't understand why, I haven't even seen the movies. Same thing about the Twilight.
Is there anyone else out there who feels the same?

Re: Am I really the only person who

I tried reading HP and couldn't get into it either. Read twilight to see what all the fuss was about. Finished that one, but will not continue with the series.

Re: Am I really the only person who

I have read them, but only because they were given to me....I never would have gone out and bought them.
Flame if you want, but I find them very juvenile in general.

Although, I did start the True Blood series and find them way more entertaining...much different from Twilight or HP series.

Of course they're juveline, they were written for teenagers. The True Blood series is adult fiction so obviously seems more mature.

i never read the HP series. I just never got around to it. I read Twilight and True Blood series. They are both very different. U cant compare the two series. Twilight is a light fast read that is actually fun to read. The true blood series is definitely adult reading. I Loved both series, but i think i liked True Blood better...

I guess it all depends on what type of books u like, if u dont like vampire, mythical or fantasy books these arent ur kinda books

It's all fantasy genre... if you're not into, you're not into it. I happen to love them and plan on reading the True Blood series next.

It's like si-fi... some people love it, some people just don't understand it (I fall of the not understanding it umbrella).

I wouldn't compare them bc I haven't read themChat Icon but yes, it def depends what kind of books you like . I just don't like fantasy, mythical and especially vampire books. I used to love them when I was a kid or a teenager ,but not any more:) (no offense to anyone)

Re: Am I really the only person who

Nope, I havent read it either. Its just not my kind of book. Although I may pick up the first one when I'm done with what I'm reading now, but I'm not confident that I'll be able to get into it.

Well Harry Potter's target audience was kids- at least at the beginning. Twilight's audience is clearly the high school crowd.... so I understand that.

With Harry Potter, as it became more of a phenomenom the language (and writing) got more sophisticated. I have only read the first Twilight book- so I can't speak for that.

I loved Harry Potter. I read Twilight, but I really didn't love it, or understand the hype.

I also thought there was a vast difference between HP and Twilight. I didn't think Twilight was well written at all, from a language standpoint, whereas I think JKR really knows how to write. I would consider the HP books to be literature, but I would not say that about Twilight (I should add that I haven't recently re-read the early HP books, so they may not have been as good, and I also only read Twilight, so I don't know if the writing gets better.)

I am also a middle school ELA teacher, so I have more of an interest in young adult literature than most people.

Same here - I'm a huge reader but never had any interest in Harry Potter or any of the Twilight series/vampire books.

Re: Am I really the only person who

I didn't think that I'd like HP because I don;t like that fantasy thing... but a few books in I started reading it and loved it... It's more realistic than i thought it would be. They start at a more basic level but her writing gets more mature as the series goes on.

But vampires? No thanks, that's waaaaay to out of my realm of interest.
