Like there is any guarantee your child is going to take care of you when you're old?
Look at all the broken families out there where the kids run off and never speak to their parents again once they get older...
Please... 
I wouldnt even consider putting that kind of responsibility on my child. I would want them to live their lives. Thats such a bs reason to have kids.

The doorman in my building at work asked when I was having kids. I said "i don't know, I'm not sure" and he said "you know, there's no point to life if you don't have kids....that's what life is about" - I didn't know what to say !
Now I just avoid asking about his kids or I make jokes about how I can't keep my plants alive or how I want to get a dog first, etc.

I mentioned it on another thread but there are 2 that made me totally 
1. "If you had married the right person you would want kids"
2. "Why don't you want kids? You're worried about your body not looking as good anymore?" WHAT?? With the hundreds of different reasons people choose not to have children, why would anyone just assume that the reason I didn't want children was because i was worried about my body??? This pi$$ed me off more than I can possible express.

I have a baby now,
but the RUDEST thing anyone ever said to me was, what's going on at home? trouble in paradise? why no baby yet? I didn't even know what to say, so I said, ever heard of birth control?!
I was so PO'ed!!!!!!! And the worst thing was I was TTC at that point and it took longer than I though I was sooooooo  and  at the same time. I hate ppl!!

Ohhh- reading other's responses is making me remember new ones by the minute.
I had a guy at work- who is around my age and who I am pretty close with- say- "Isn't the whole point of marraige to have a family?"
Um NO. I married my husband for who HE was and vice versa. Not for his sperm and not for my eggs. And azzhat- WE- the two of us- ARE a family.
How dare you imply we aren't a family because we don't have kids.
Maybe his tune would change if he wife wasn't able to get pregnant at the drop of a hat and they were faced with not being able to have any kids.
Meantime- he is one of the poster children for NOT having kids because he has 3 and acts MISERABLE and complains about them all the time.
JERK!!!!!

I recently got..."You don't want kids??? What does your husband say???...my reply to this particular male chauvinist was "um...he doesn't want them either"...he was insinuating that i was forcing my DH not to have kids with my decision.

Your too young..or not ready to have children! I'm 27 for god's sake. And though I don't want children right now..I don't think its anyones business if they feel I'm personally ready to...Its my decision and mine alone

The rudest thing I ever got was from my MIL and BIL - DH and I were married for 1 year, the first Christmas we spent the day with them and made other arrangements with my family. The second Christmas we were married, I wanted to have dinner with my family..his BIL said to me "no, we were married first and have kids, you don't..you have to do what we do and go by our schedule".
Decorum prevents me from writing what my response to that was.

Because don't you know- all us women are good for is to be baby factories and to give our husbands sons to carry on the family name.
I love that one- the family name- once you are dead you won't care if you family name is carried on or not- because you wont' know the difference....

I'm the opposite. DH and I want children more than anything but we are still dealing with getting his mental illness stabilized, dealing with the financial reprocussions of his mental illness, and me losing weight and when we were in the fac lounge talking about it and a colleague of mine talked about her and her DH's decision to be childless, I said I'm just the reverse. My DH can't wait for a baby. She said oh but you're not ready. I was trying to say that I know we're not ready but she didn't need to blab that in front of a whole bunch of people.

I want a child more than anything too, but DH has Male fertility issues and he is a little reluctant to spend the $ on IVF since there is no guarantee, (I am also 41.5) but we are going to try.

If being a mother is all she feels she is good for then she has major self esteem and self worth issues.

We also want kids more than anything...and so far have been unsucessful with IVF etc...
DH had a co-worker and his wife over one night. They have twins (boy & girl- conceived naturally of course) and I guess the grandmother had been watching the kids all day and the wife didn't know what to do with herself.
She said "I feel so bad for people who can't have kids. I mean what do they do all day, they must be so bored".
Ummmm...thanks. That was 1st and last time we hung out.

-yes, I like to think that I would, but my biggest hurdle is that I don't have a good support network. My mom died, my MIL died, the dad's aren't capable of helping.
Just leave me be.
