Today was a good day...
Without revealing too much info- today we had an annual review for a student in a self contained class who has autism. A year ago, this student tantrumed during most transitions, had little to no spontaneous speech except for scripted statements and echolalia, and really wanted nothing to do with anyone.
Today, I watched him with his peers in a general ed classroom, raising his hand to participate AND was appropriate in his responses! He interacted with his friends- and ENJOYED it. I then went to a meeting where we started the paperwork to transition him to a general education classroom (with help from a TA) for next year.
Today was a GOOD day!!!!
