kidney stones

DH had kidney stones a few weeks ago. Dr called him last week and said he wasn't happy with the analysis of the stone and the fact that he had 2 more sitting in his kidneys. So DH went to the Dr. this morning. He basically said that if it was one stone he wouldn't be too concerned, but since DH is only 32 and still has one more stone in each kidney, that he was convinced that DH's body isn't processing calcium efficiently. He wan'ts DH to have 2 procedures to break up the stones- which DH is fine with. But he also said he wants DH on medication FOR LIFE to help his body with the calcium. DH is not happy about this and really doesn't want to be on lifetime medication. He asked the Dr. about alternatives and the Dr was very matter of fact that this was the only option, he actually told him "you just better get used to it." DH is going to go for a second opinion.
Does anyone else take medication to avoid kidney stones? Any dietary alternatives?

Re: kidney stones

Oh wow, poor DH.

The only advice I have is that a family friend (male) has them VERY VERY bad, and drinks lemonade everyday to help avoid them. He swears by it. I guess it has something to do with the acidity in lemons? I'm not sure, but thought I would suggest it. I hope the second opinion goes better.

Re: kidney stones

I'm guessing that these stones were very substantial in size.
I have one stone in each kidney, and my doctor said as long as they aren't moving and causing me pain, then don't worry about it.
I would def get a second opinion! Especially since he wants him on medication for life.
