Need Suggestions!
I am posting this under a "fake" name because I am currently finishing up my master's degree in special education and will be student teaching come September, but I have not yet informed my company that I will be leaving! Some of my co-workers also post on this site so I wanted to keep this under wraps until I spoke with my boss.
Anyway, I have a question regarding school districts. I am seeking a certification in special education and I will need to do my placement in a special education classroom. Would any of you be able to recommend a school district in Suffolk County with a great special education program?
TIA

Re: Need Suggestions!
I have heard that Half Hollow Hills (Dix Hills) is excellent for special education. Good luck!

I am not familiar w/ suffolk- but I am also not sure how likely it is you will be able to choose the district you student teach in. It depends on which schools your college has a relationship with and which districts/shools are accepting student teachers.
Just a tip Good luck!

I'm in Lindenhurst and they have a great Special Ed program. Some of the schools in the district have self-contained classrooms, some have ABA.
My brother has autism and went through the Bay Shore school district (graduated last year) and they also have a good program.

The college requests you submit them with a list of your top choices of districts and they are pretty good at placing you at one of your requested schools. I just didn't want to choose blindly.
Thank you all for your suggestions....they have been very helpful!

Re: Need Suggestions!
Longwood has a huge Special Ed. department...from resource room, to inclusion classes to self contained classrooms. There are ABA classes, behavior management classes, and life skills classes.
