My name on his house

For those of you who's DH already owned his own home before you were married, how long did you wait before putting your name on the deed? How do I go about putting my name on the house?

Do you have a family attorney?

You can get a deed kit online also or at some print shops/stationary stores last I heard.

You would just go to the county clerks office and have it recorded. There are certain forms and requirements for NYS.

I'm not sure what the fees per page are up to now, but it isnt much.

i'm in that same situation. we're going to leave it as is. putting me on the mortgage could affect the interest rate or something. it's really not a big deal, if anything happens to him (god forbid) the house goes to me anyway.

I agree about going to an attorney- my grandfather practiced real estate law & they have to set-up the ownership properly or it can affect how you inherit the property if something happens to the other one- I can recommend a great one that we used for our closing if you like.

Re: My name on his house

You can do a quick claim deed and add yourself to the house. You dont have to go on the mortgage or anything. Just call an attorney, they can do it for you.
