Do grammatical errors in children's books bother you?
They irritate me to no end! I cannot believe how many there are and how basic the mistakes are. I know, you can go to my posts and say that I'm not a good Grammar Queen. Those are typographical errors, though. I would make sure that they weren't there if I had a book going to publication. I think that at least I would know what to look up. For example, I tried to investigate where the apostrophe goes in "children's" before I posted such a snooty question. Does anyone else get annoyed? Do our children have a chance to learn proper grammar if they do not even see it in their books?
What mommy posts online doesn't count!!

Yes.
It gets even worse when you read books from our childhood. Also I never realized how many times characters call each other names, etc.

Omg, it annoys me SO much! I actually have a book of fairy tales that someone gave Ava somewhere along the way, and every, single story sounds like this: One day, Golidlocks goes to the bears house. She goes inside. She tastes the porridge and doesn't like it. It's too cold. She tastes the next porridge. It's all told in present tense idiot language.

The one book that annoys me to no end is for around Kindergarten age. My DD's K teacher recommended Junie B. Jones books for the kids to read. Hello, they are all spelled wrong, words don't make sense and written the way a first grader would. How is this supossed to be teaching our kids the proper way to read and write.

I was going to mention Junie B Jones too bc they are very funny books but IMO the intentional grammatical errors are such a weird thing considering it's a book geared towards young elementary school children.
Also in regards to the errors in books that I would assume are not intentional - I think they might be more prevalent in cheapo books. The dollar store type books. I guess a proofreader is not in the budget?

It bothers me even more when I see mistakes in newspapers. Come on now, that what editors are supposed to be there for.

Re: Do grammatical errors in children's books bother you?
Always! I am a middle school English teacher who might be a little bitter because I probably would not have been able to break into publishing. I feel like the kids books I see are better edited than some adult books, though. Sometimes I feel like writing to a publisher to point out little errors that should have been caught.

I wrote an article that contained a wording error that was not in my original. I think they were trying to get the columns to fit the page. One sentence didn't make sense with the change. I am excited about having my article published but that error makes me feel weird when I show the article to people. I think that it happens because of time constraints.
