Bethesda, MD
We're going to bethesda Labor DAy weekedn for a wedding, but we;re going a day early to hopefully see some sights. What are the must sees? Is it easy to get to DC? How far is it from busch gardens if we wanted to extend our vacation and drive there for a day or two? We're staying at the Hyatt Regency Bethesda. Any tips would be great. thanks!

Re: Bethesda, MD
i'm not sure exactly where that hotel is, but there's a metro station in bethesda. it takes probably 20-30 minutes to get to downtown dc from there. obviously downtown there's tons of things to see. the smithsonian is always great especially since it's free and if it's not too hot it's fun to walk along the mall. i think the holocaust museum is really interesting, the national art gallery is nice too.
busch gardens is about 3-4 hours away, depending on traffic.

Re: Bethesda, MD
Every time DH and I go to DC, we stay at the Bethesda Marriott bc DH has so many Marriott miles, we stay for free. Bethesda is such a short ride to DC (easy drive or train ride). We haven't been there since 9/11, but when we went, we were able to tour the capitol by ourselves! it was so cool! definitely visit the smithsonian, go to adams morgan for some cultural shopping and food, and hang out in georgetown at night! there are also some hoppin' places in adams morgan that DH & I enjoyed (live music) but the scene is very different so it's up to you which you prefer more. Have fun! DH & I love DC!

Re: Bethesda, MD
Thanks. I'm glad it's so close to DC. I want to hit up the american history smithsonian, it's the only one I didn't ge to see when i went to DC as a kid. I would love to see the holocaust museum again, but it would be too draining on a wedding weekend. I'm going to try to look up some travel info on bethesda and DC. I want to make this a fun fun trip!

marymoon, i don't know how into ethnic foods you are, but like you, DH & I are vegetarians and really enjoyed eating ETHIOPIAN food for the first time while in DC -- Adams Morgan to be specific. The name of the restaurant is Meskerem. It was delish!
