If you truly hate teaching then give it up. I only say that because you referenced having other income that is sufficient. There are always adjunct professor openings. What do you teach and at which campus? My brother usually teaches 2 business classes a semester in Selden.

I teach 2 English classes a semester at Selden.

There are very few things that are worse than continuing a job you hate.
Drop it.
Who cares what anyone else thinks anyway?
After you quit, use your new-found free time to do something new and exciting. Take up an intramural sport, do yoga, if you belong to an alumni association to a college on LI - audit a foreign language class, make jewelry, etc.

Well, I teach adults now.. and I HATE kids, so I definitely wouldn't go younger than I am now.

I was thinking more high school.
It is always something that you can go back to in the future if you decide you want to teach again.

It is always something that you can go back to in the future if you decide you want to teach again.
LOL yeah I know. I'm sure Ill get a lashing. I barely like 18 year olds, so I can't imagine 15 year olds would be better... plus that would be every day for 8 hours! AND my degree is in Lit, not education.

I can totally relate to how you feel. I am in a very similar situation. I am not at all happy with my career path. I went to school for so long and I too have a masters degree but I am miserable. I can only tell you what DH said to me the other night. If you are that unhappy regardless of a degree then you should leave. It’s not worth it, plus you will always have your degree to fall back on if you miss it.

Not really. I pride myself in being a very hard worker and my biggest issue was that I immediately went for my masters from undergrad without really thinking about what I truly wanted to do. I did that mostly because I wanted to further my education. People can say whatever they want, I don’t care. It wouldn’t be the first time and it certainly wont be the last. People talk no matter what you do.

A degree is never a "waste." My sister has a two degrees: in in Fine Art, the other in BioPsych. She's a PA, so she doesn't use her art degree. But she loved the courses, and wouldn't trade the experience for the world.
Teaching is not for everyone. If you can support yourself w/o the income, why be miiserable? People are going to have an opinion no matter what you do; you might as well be happy with your decisions.

Hey there,
You might just be "tired" of working so much. I suggest teach one class only for now and then see how you feel. If you find that you really hate it and the $ isn't even worth it....then quit. Best of luck :)

I agree!!! Although I am fairly happy at my job (just regret going into the field where the pay isn't terrific). You need to ultimately do what will make you happy in life..regarless of the degree. You don't want to stay in a job you can't stand..think of it in the long term. I would try a different career path..maybe theres something where you heart truly is. You won't find that out unless you search...good luck

all these options are so serious
heather as your friend i think you should quite all your jobs and become a burlesque dancer, with a side job with HBO Taxicab confessions. i think you would really enjoy that. BUT, your episodes of the show would be filmed while riding horse.
