Growth sonos- How accurate?

Those that have had Growth Sonos can you please tell me how accurate they were.

For example: # of weeks and weight they told you and then the weight when you actually delivered.

Re: Growth sonos- How accurate?

I had a growth sono 2 days before my c/s they said it was going to be 9lb 4oz (had one a week prior as well that said 9lb 1oz)
DS was born on his due date at 9lb 14oz.

They can vary up to 2lbs I have heard. My dr sent me to the hospital to have my growth sonos as she said it they were more accurate than in the office.

Re: Growth sonos- How accurate?

At 39 weeks 3 days the sono said DD was 9.5lbs.

I had her on my due date (40 weeks) and she was 8.7lbs.

The sono was almost a pound off.

So 2 days before DS was born the growtrh sono read... 9.5lbs a "monster in my belly" they guestimated about 19-21 inches.

Had c-sec 2 days later, DS was born 8lbs 12oz and 20 inches. Still big.

I was 41 weeks, 3days.

Re: Growth sonos- How accurate?

Pfffffffffffft. They are a total crock! 5 days before I went into labor they did a growth sono and told me my baby was going to be big, over 9lbs.

Yeah, well, needless to say my little monkey came out at a whopping 6lbs, 1 ounce! Chat Icon Chat Icon

What they completely fail to tell you is that the growth sono can be off by upwards of 2-3lbs, which can make a HUGE difference! I wouldn't rely on the growth sono to predict how big the baby will be, or as a reason for an elective c-section, for that reason.

Re: Growth sonos- How accurate?

DS "lost" over 2lbs in less than 12 hours! DW had a routine sono during the day, and delivered that night. Sono was around 8lbs+, and DS was born at 5lbs, 14oz.

Re: Growth sonos- How accurate?

I had growth scan every month starting at 20 weeks. My last one was about 36 weeks and they said ds was about 5.5lbs. He was born 2 weeks later and weighed 6.5lbs. So they were dead on. Mine was done at Madonna Perinatal (Babylon office).

Re: Growth sonos- How accurate?

I had a growth sono the night before I was induced. I had very low fluid, so the tech said it might be off. She estimated 6lbs 6oZ, Jacob was born 7lbs 4 oz.

Re: Growth sonos- How accurate?

I had a gorwth sono the day before my induction, which was 5 days past my due date and they said he looked to be about 9lbs. The sono said that he would probably be less then that because he had long limbs and that can skew the estimate. He was born the next day at 7lbs11oz

Re: Growth sonos- How accurate?

I had the growth sono at 36 wks with DS #1 and with this pregnancy.

With DS#1, he was measuring just under 6 lbs. They estimated his birth weight to be 7 1/2 lbs. He was 6 1/2 at birth at 39 wks.

DS #2 is measuring 6lbs 2oz an they estimate his birth weight to be between 7 1/2 and 8 lbs. We'll see in 2 wks if they're correct.

Re: Growth sonos- How accurate?

mine was completely off. I went in 2 weeks before my due date. they said she was weighing in around 7lbs. at the appointment they realized I was at the beginning stage of preeclampsia and sent me to be induced. I ended up having a C-Section the next day and she weighed 4lbs, 8 oz. not sure if she lost that much weight in 1 day because of the preeclampsia, but I think they should have caught ithe weight loss sooner at the sono the day before.

Re: Growth sonos- How accurate?

I had two and they were way off. I can't remember the specifics now, but I do remember saying when DS was born that he was smaller than they said he was 3 weeks before he was born. He was born at 8 lbs. even.

Re: Growth sonos- How accurate?

with my ds they estimated at 39weeks for him to be MAYBE 8 lbs..then when i was in labor they did a sono (i forget why, but this was 10 years ago, alot has changed) and they still said he wasnt much bigger then 8...he came out over 10 lbs!!

my dd, who is only 3 months old now..was measured at 38 weeks 2 days to be 5 lbs 15 oz..and a week later when i had her, she was 6.11oz...so pretty much dead on..

At 38w4d they measured Emerson at 9 1/2lbs and told me if I went to term she would be AT LEAST 10lbs. She was born at exactly 39w1d and she weighed 8lbs 8oz so they were off by about a pound.

Re: Growth sonos- How accurate?

I had many due to my doctor's concern over my DD's weight. My last one was at almost 40 weeks and she was measuring 8 lbs 11 oz. She was born a week later at 9 lbs 3 0z. So the tech was pretty much spot on.

Re: Growth sonos- How accurate?

Mine were exactly on with DD. They are supposed to be an error margin of +/- 1 lb - if you have an experienced tech doing the sono. Now having said that - if you have someone who is less experienced they can vary more than that. But that is supposed to be the general rule.
