(x-post) Anxiety help
Fo the past 15 years or so I have suffered from panic disorder. I have been on paxil and effexor (the lowest doses available) on and off. The meds help a lot. Problem is you can't take the meds if you are pregnant and dh and I are going to be ttc late this summer.
Anyway, I stopped the effexor this past Christmas and have been fine but last week I went to Dominivan Republic with some of my girls and I guess I was nervous about being in another country without my family and I had a panic attack. Now since that one I am getting them more often again.
I do not want to be on meds anymore but I am looking for a behavior therapist that can teach how to control my symptoms of this disorder.
DOes anyone know of a good dr. for my problem? I would love to see someone who has been reffered to me. btw I am in suffolk county
TIA

Re: (x-post) Anxiety help
Thanks girls. I could go years with nothing and then once I get 1 its all down hill because of the fear of getting more.
I really want to try a natural approach but I think I need some help doing that from a dr.
Thank god my dh is understanding, I just need to get this in check.
But thanks for the kind words girls

Re: (x-post) Anxiety help
I suffered and still do suffer every once in a while from very bad panic/anxiety attacks.
I refused medication and went the natural way and saw a therpist that gave me techiniques to help me through those moments and even identify them before I go into a full blown attack. My primary care doctor also suggested valerian root and that helped a lot and still take it once in a while when I have an attack. I recently had one like 2 weeks ago.
My advice and advice that was given to me by my doctor was to not take any natural herb while on medication, I guess they don't work well together.
Good luck and lots of hugs

Jess Sorry you are going through this.
How are you feeling otherwise? Saw a post about you being sick - are you all better? Was it food poisoning?

Hey, thanks for asking. I am feeling much better. I brought home more than anxiety from Dominican. The dr thinks it was just a bad virus or a bout of food poisoning. On a positive note, I lost a few pounds lol.
Now if I could only get this anxiety crap under control all would be great in my life. I guess there is always something right?

Re: (x-post) Anxiety help
I have a great suggestion for you. I have anxiety also but refuse to ever take medication for personal reasons. I heard about this program from my SIL. Basically it is a self help program and it works wonders. I did it last year before the wedding and I had no anxiety after about two months of the program, even on our honeymoon in Mexico I did not have any anxiety, which for me is great because I get anxiety being in another country.
the website is www.stresscenter.com
I really have to start my program over again because I never finished it with the wedding but it definitely works well. Although I do get a little anxiety because I stopped doing the program, I have not had an attack since 2 months into it.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Re: (x-post) Anxiety help
I dont have a recommendation on a therapist- but someone in my family has it- and one of the things that the doctor told him was no caffeine, work-out daily- even just a 30 minute walk- and eat a very balanced diet dont know if that will help but wanted to pass it along anyhow
