Identical/fraternal

I always thought two sacs meant fraternal. Im reading in the book tonight about multiples..it doesnt. IT could still be identical.

How did those with Same sex babies know ?

my identical daughters shared a placenta. That is how the Dr could tell immediately. They were however in 2 different sacs.

Re: Identical/fraternal

My doctor said that there is a small chance that twins can be identical even if they have their own placentas and sacs. He said it coud happen if they seperate vey early on. I know mine are not because they are boy/girl.

Fraternal twins will have a separate placenta and be in separate sacs Dichorionic & Diamnionic....although sometimes it may appear that Fraternal twins share a placenta when they really dont....

How Identicals present themselves in utero has to do with when the egg split..

I found a link...rather than try and explain it...My twins were Monochorionic & Diamnionic...

Indentical twinning

When I went for my level II they were able to tell...the membrane separating them is thinner..

Hope this helps...

They were not able to tell until after mine were born that they were identical, they needed to look at the placenta. It really all depends how close they are when they implanted, etc.

Re: Identical/fraternal

I was told my sono tech that they were not identical. But, when they came out it was impossible to tell them apart. Still is sometimes 3 1/2 years later.
I met a twin woman inTarget who asked me if they were identical? (they were newborns at the time). I told her honestly I don't know. She said she was told the same thing but, had their DNA tested. And her twins were. So, I looked online & got a tester kit. Mailed it back & indeed they are identical.

Re: Identical/fraternal

mine are easy to tell apart ( for most people- every onece in a while someone ask me how i tell them apart. )

no one ever confirmed with testing idential or fraternial. i say fraternial but i am not 100% sure. I was told both while in the hosipital.

they came from 2 sacs, i had 2 eggs ( one could have split but mor elikely both were fertilized....and they ( usually)do not look alike. But both are the same blood type and gender and one dr said they could be identical. i still think fraternal...
