I have a couple of important questions
Is it really dangerous to be on Augmentin if you are in the early stages of pregnancy? What about if you took a high dosage of motrin?
Also I was exposed to fifths disease this weekend. I am freaking out right now.

Re: I have a couple of important questions
Is there an emergency number at your Ob? I would consider it an emergency. When I was in my first trimester I was so sick and my dr did not want me taking motrin

Re: I have a couple of important questions
Make sure you get a blood test for Fifths Disease to find out if you are already immune to it. This is quite serious imo, unfortunately there isn't anything you can do if you are exposed, but I woud call my doctor and get tested immediately. Good Luck!

Re: I have a couple of important questions
The only thing I'd be worrying about is Fifths disease. You can go have a blood test to see if you've already got immunity to it.
The Augmentin is fine, and Motrin is fine until the 3rd trimester.

Re: I have a couple of important questions
I'm PG and I was prescribed Augmentin a few weeks ago from my OB.Motrin is not good during PG, but doing things at the start without knowing are ok, its repeated usage that causes issues.

Motrin is a blood thinner, just like Advil, that si why they don't want you taking it, it isn't the same thing as an antibiotic

I thought i've read somewhere that you and the baby don't share the same blood stream until 10 weeks or something. Am i making that up? Anyone know?

it's 6 weeks - and advil and motrin are not safe to take during pregnancy, they can cause miscarriages. tylenol is safe, however.

No i know. But if she's very early in the pregnancy, the baby will probably be fine since they don't share the blood stream yet. That's all. Trying to make her feel better...

Most traditional OB's do not reccomend it though. Its not a matter of the class of drug it is in, its the studies that have shown Motrin may potentially cause birth defects ( as do other class B drugs) . At least that was what was told to me by My OB. ( because I HATE tylenol)
ETA- although I think you are right and I do think he mentioned that it is more harmful the later in the PG you have taken it.

I think it's not recommended because no studies have been done using pg women. BUT -all studies using animal subjects showed no problems with the fetus, until the 3rd trimester.

Re: I have a couple of important questions
i was prescribed augmentin while PG and also took a rather large dose of motrin before finding out i was PG. my DD is a perfectly healthy 6 month old. i would call your OB in the morning, or you can even call a different OB and just ask. they MAY give you a general answer to help ease your mind.
