earth day
as a parent, I am very uneasy about the way the planet will be for my son and his future. Stories on the news today have me scared for what life will be like in America when my child is an adult. I don't want him to inherit our problems and those of past generations.

Me too, but I channel the fear into being proactive about what I can do to help. The way the GO Green movement is taking over ( this Earth day is proof of that , it was soooo much more accepted by everyone, from media to stores then EVER before in past years...) , I think that good will come. People are waking up.

Re: earth day
I agree with you, BUT take heart, the news media is out to sell ad $$$$$ and doom and gloom is what does that. It is not as bad as the media paints it out to be. YES, changes need to be made, but take it with a grain of salt. We are not gonna see somethign happen like the movie "the day after tomorrow" when your son is 18 yrs old. I believe that we as a planet will do more to combat climate change and someone (maybe a bunch of folks) will invent a whole bunch of things to help all of us help the planet. Just my 2 cents...

Re: earth day
I think the outlook for our DC's future is better than almost any previous generation...
Many of us grew up during the Gas Crisis of the 70's, the Cold War of the 80's (where we were a button press away from global elimination), so many school shootings in the 90's.
I am thrilled to be raising my DC now. I think they have a very promising future....

Re: earth day
Think global, act local.
I want my (future) children to have a better earth than I did. As such, pick up litter even if you didn't dump it.
reduce, reuse, recycle.

Re: earth day
Truthfully, you know what scares me more for my children growing up in this world? The lack of morals and values of people these days. It scares me more that they are advertising vaccines for sexually transmitted diseases to 9 year old girls. It scares me more that kids post half naked pictures of themselves on sites like myspace, and they feel it's no big deal. It scares me more that a lot of teens have more sexual partners than the adult people I know. It scares more that teen pregnancy is prevalent. It scares me more that so many children have to grow up in broken and disfuncyational homes. It scares me more that people in todays world are so materialistic. It scares me more that kids go to school with guns and shoot each other. It scares me more that child molesters seem to be everywhere these days. These are the things that scare me for my children.
Think about how truly simple it is for us all to change and fix the earth. Some recycling here, some reusing there. Plant some trees, grow some vegetables. Use some reusable bags. Save water and energy. Don't use harmful chemicals that damage the earth. Don't litter. Walk a little instead of always using your car. These things are so simple to change and help the earth. It's instilling and keeping my children living moral and safe lives that is my main concern as well as keeping them away from those how would lead them astray from their morals and values.
