EI?

Hi! my son was evaluated today by 2 wonderful women for EI speech and they recommended that he get therapy and evaluations by OT/PT. we didn't set anything up for the OT/PT evaluations.

i am a bag of raw mixed emotions right now - glad that we're getting him services so that he can catch up, sad that he qualifies and nervous about the future evaluations and what they mean.

i am not sure what to do at this point. ahhhhhhhhh i searced old ei topics on lif and there are many of the same emoitions that everyone's felt thus far... just wanted to vent. i've gone from zero to tears in seconds and then back to reality that EI is a good thing...it is just very overwhelming

thanks for letting me vent

Re: EI?

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Going through the evaluations is hard!!!!! For the kids somehow, but ESPECIALLY for the parents. It can open a can of worms you are not ready for. It's very emotional!!!!! This period in time (not so long ago!) is so painful to me that I still cannot tell about DS' diagnostic and when asked how I felt/dealt with it, without balling. Really!

But in the end, when all is said and done, EI is the best thing. If anything is needed, it can be addressed asap.

Hang in there!

My Son has a severe speech delay and we have EI services for that and some sensory issues.

I felt a lot of different emotions and still do NOW going through it....we are only like 4 months in. Its normal.

The women on here are a great source of info as well as support!

Yes, it IS very overwhelming... many phone calls, evaluations, paperwork- half of which is hard to understand, and just endless WORRY.

My son has a speech delay and aged out of EI when he turned 3. He now continues at a preschool where he is still in speech classes, and now will be receiving some OT as well.

I let them do whatever evaluations they thought were necessary, and accepted any services they offered... it wiill only help, and it's FREE!

EI is a wonderful thing. It is very time consuming of a process to handle at times, but it I am so grateful for it. Just know, that soooo many children receive services and you are not alone. It's just not something that people talk about openly because it is a hard thing to handle and deal with at times. And we are all here to support and help you with any questions you have!

Re: EI?

thank you ladies. i spent much of this morning crying on my way to work and couldn't speak about yesterday's events without crying, but i feel better now. i think it was the initial shock. i set up an audiological assessment and am waiting to hear back from OT/PT.

thank you soooooo much for your words of encouragement. i truly appreciate it!

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon It will be FINE! EI is amazing!!!
I, too, cried many tears when I found out DS qualified for services.
Once a few sessions went by, it got more and more positive!
It truly is an amazing program! You will see!

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon It is totally normal to feel that way. I was a mess when I found out my son qualified, even though I knew he would going into it.

EI is great! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
