Mothers Day
Just curious -- do your families do anything for you for Mother's Day? This is my first mother's day at a SM and I am wondering if I should get my hopes up thinking people are going to get me cards or something (not counting DH -- he already told me I am getting something!) but I mean like other family members. Or do they just not think about it this way?

Re: Mothers Day
honestly, it depends on the people in your life. i've found that for those who are/have been stepmothers - they sent cards or called to acknowledge me before I became a mother to my own son. some years my ss made me things, some years he did not. one year my ss bought me a magnet from school that said "mom" and he said he couldn't find one that said stepmom but thought it was ok to give it to me anyway b/c i treat him like he's my son

Re: Mothers Day
yes, it depends. My family doesnt see me as mom. However, last year SS was over during mothers day weekend and went with my BIL to get cards for my sister. He told BIL, he needed to get a card gor me because I am like a mom and thats why mom is in stepmom - it was the sweetest thing ever and meant so much to me. So even though I was two years as a stepmom b/4 it happened it meant the world to me!!

Re: Mothers Day
your stories are so sweet and touching.
I have never been acknowledged by SD in that "Mother's Day" type of way in fact...DH is even forgotten about on Father's Day as well ...so it is safe to say "no" for me.
But that is great that your SKs hold that special feeling for you on Mother's Day.

Re: Mothers Day
Before I had bio children of my own, I don't think anyone ( aside from DH) acknowledged me on Mothers Day from what I remember...My DH always bought me something from my SD and she would draw in the card etc. but thats all I think ...

Re: Mothers Day
Last year was my first Mother's Day as SM and my family did get me presents like they do for all the other moms. My SD also got me a plant which I thought was very thoughtful.
To be honest, I was kind of weirded out when the rest of my family got me gifts. To me (and this isn't meant to offend any of you), I'm not a mom yet and don't really think I need to be acknowledged as one. Maybe if I had SD full time, I wouldn't feel that way but that's not my situation.
I certainly appreciate my SD acknowledging me as a step"mom" but in my mind, I'm LIKE a mom, not A mom. To me, gifts from everyone else were unnecessary. However, I'm sure that my family was unsure which way to go and didn't want me to feel left out which was definitely thoughtful.

Re: Mothers Day
On Mother's Day my DD stays home with her mom but she always calls me early in the day to wish me well, I really appreciate it. Sometimes she gets me a little something and gives it to me the following weekend; though last year she didn't.
The first year we had our dog, Kevin made me a card from her, and I still have it hanging up in my office.
Other than that, no I don't get anything for Mother's Day. In fact, I'm usually the one who hosts my mom and Grandma.
Hopefully when we have a baby I'll get to really enjoy the day!!

Re: Mothers Day
I never got anything nor do I really look to get anything regarding SS. I do expect a gift regarding DD though. Last mother's day was the first time I got anything and it was from my DD (bought by DH of course). It was a Tifany heart that said "mom" on it. One the one hand no one in DH's family considered me a mom even though I was a s-mother, they only like me if I hate BM and since I don't "hate" her DH's family and I are at odds. They're too wound up trying to find ways to hold onto their anger toward the BM. My DH only likes telling me what I should do/feel - he's another story, but he's my DH so he has his blow ups and then goes back to normal. As for SS - he asked me once if he should call me mom - but since it was right after I had DD I said "it's not fair to your real mother". It was a nice gesture, but I see him a few times a year and seriously, after going though a difficult pregnancy and childbirth I saw a different side of becoming a mother. This is for me anyway, everyone is different. I never thought I'd say this, but I'd really be crushed if my DD ever called another woman "mom". It may sound horrible of me, but it's my feeling at this point and I used to argue that all the time with people. My family (my parent's and sib) never considered me a mom and my parent's still don't consider themselves grandparents to SS. It's just a very different situation I guess than other's have. No one on my side is angry or anything about the situation, but if a BM really keeps the child at bay it's hard for the new step family to feel all warm and fuzzy. My parent's are very nice to him - but their grandchild is my DD. It works differently in all families.. I'm actually surprised when I read how well ppl get along with BM's and such on here. I don't hate her, I just don't have anything to do with the BM.

Re: Mothers Day
I have never been acknowledged on Mothers day by my SKs, even though (believe it or not) we do have them most of the time on mothers day.
