Does he really know them?
Ok, so Christopher has 2 toys that teaches the ABC's. It will ask him to find the letter "a" , and he will ID many of them on 2 separate toys. But when given it to him in isolation, he points to both letters, or pushes them away. DH thinks he is memorizing them, but the one toy would be impossible, plus the keys are so small, and it is random. Any tips?

have you tried the fridge phonics? I feel like that's what taught Jack the alphabet. Also he just got the v-tech computer and there are games on it where they show a picture and say where's the A and he would find the A on the keyboard. Jack LOVES this too. HTH

He probably does know them, it may just take him a little bit to connect the two. It may just take him a bit to get comfortable with it.
I would try showing him the "A" on the toy along with a fridge magnet, or foam letter, just to help him along.
It's awesome that he can identify letters.

He might be memorizing them. Sophia knew all her numbers and alphabet on about 5 different toys around the house but could not identify them outside the toys. She has a terrific memory and we have to remember to change things up in therapy because she also memorizes the order the teacher tells her things so sometimes she answers before the question is even asked lol.
But for her alphabet and numbers I basically just started generalizing them everywhere, on tv, in the paper on signs, in books and now she really knows them.

What do you mean he points to both letters? Do you have the 2 toys side by side when you are asking him to find a letter, so he will point to the a on both toys, but won't let you ask him with the 1 toy in isolation?
There is a reason I am asking this...

The toy will ask him find the letter "a". No, he will play them them separately, not at the same time.

He may be memorizing thembut its a first step. You might want try and get him to generalize by starting with a letter or two and associating it with different text in books, on posters, large type in magazines etc.
