Mouth guards sold in drug stores? Anyone use them or have tried them?

I am wondering if they are any good?

I wake up every day with a headache. My jaw hurts, my face, everything. I thought it was allergies until allergy meds did nothing for me. I think I grind my teeth during the night and I was wondering if anyone is better than the other. I need to try SOMETHING because I am in pain every single day...its really driving me crazy.

Does anyone use one? How is it? Any types better than the other? TIA.

honestly, the only one i've ever used was done by a TMJ specialist, but i can't imagine it would be a bad thing to try. It was NOT cheap (even with insurance) but it made a HUGE difference in my life...i wore it for about 2 years straight and noticed a difference IMMEDIATELY!!!!!

also - try to avoid caffeine... if you do have some form of TMJ as well, caffeine suffocates the blood vessels (either red or white, i can never remember) that you NEED to ensure good blood flow in your face....(which can cause pain & swelling).

I've tried two different ones I've gotten at CVS and both were uncomfortable or made my mouth hurt more.

(I clench my jaw in my sleep - BAAAAD when I am stressed -and would wake up with ear pain that felt like somone stuck a knife in my ear)

I have...they all suck! I had one made for a lot of $$$, that's the only one that works.

So sorry you are in pain, I know how it feels.
