Not using principal as ref
Random question. If someone is asking for references does it look weird to not use your principal but use the assistant principal instead and fellow teachers?

I don't know about fellow teachers, but I think it's absolutely fine to use an assistant principal!

Re: Not using principal as ref
I teach high school and typically put my department chair as my #1 reference.
Just as an FYI - Last year, I did not put my principal as a reference, but they still called him. I did not have a problem with this since I got along well with him (The only reason I didn't put him as a reference was because they asked for references at the very beginning of the process and I did not want the admn to know I was looking. Luckily, they didn't actually call my admin until I was in the final 2)

Re: Not using principal as ref
When I was looking for my current job, I didn't use admins from my school as references at all. I used my professors from graduate school, my internship supervisor, and a colleague at the school I was trying to leave (she was the senior member of the department).
GL!
