Mammogram??

I have to go for my first Mammogram. Even though Iam 27 my mom had breast cancer at 35 so my obgyn is sending me for one. I am nervous. Has anyone ever had one? Does it hurt? Thanks ladies!!

Re: Mammogram??

I just had one done. Hoenstly it does hurt becasue they're squeezing your tata's between two plastic plates. It's more uncomfortable than anything. Unfortunately it's a necessary evil. My ob/gyn sent me because my aunt on my mother's side died of breast cancer at 40 so he thought it was prudent for me to start screening early.

Re: Mammogram??

Going for one tomorrow.

Yes it does hurt, but only for about a minute when the squishing is done.
Each boob gets two squishes.
First one is top to bottom, the second one is done on an angle, and they take some of the flesh in the crease of your armpit to get the nodes in.

It's a necessary thing to do, and you can take some tylenol beforehand if you think you will have discomfort afterwards.

This will be my fourth one. First one at 35, then at 40, 41 and now 42.

Re: Mammogram??

I just had my first one last week (had a little scare, but thank god i am OK!)

It does hurt a little, but more b/c they are sqishing your boobie... but it is not a pain that will last for hours...

Good Luck and let me know if you need anything!!!Chat Icon

Re: Mammogram??

I go every year (I need to go now) and it is definitely uncomfortable but not too painful and only lasts a few seconds at a time.

I also had a little scare last year but all was good! Phew!

Good luck!
