dense area in breast?
Anyone been told that their mammogram showed a dense area?
I just had my first mammogram (I'm 32) and the radiologist wants me to come back in 6 months. I also had an ultrasound because there is a lump and pain in my breast. Both the mammo and ultrasound did not show the lump, and the density in the breast is actually in a different area than the lump.
I thought the radiologist should've order an MRI, but she felt it was not necessary at this point, and if in 6 months anything changes, she will.

Re: dense area in breast?
Ive been going through something similiar for the last 4 years. I have lumps on the side of my breast that the ultrasound doesnt show. The surgeon and tech say that its just tissue. However, i go every 6 months to get it checked and at my visit yesterday, they did a needle biopsy. Im sure if they are concerned, that will be the next step. If you dont feel comfortable, then go and get a second opionion but i think its kind of common.

Re: dense area in breast?
From what I've been told, dense breast tissue is very common in younger women. If you want a further opinion than just the radiologists, you could consult with a breast specialist.
