Where do you buy your yarn from?
I had this past week off and so decided to try to learn how to knit and get back into crochet. Had more luck with crochet than I did knitting, but both were ok.
Do any of you buy your yarn on the internet or do you primarily buy from local stores? We have some specialty yarn stores here in the DC area but they all seem so pricey to me.
I'm curious as to where others get their supplies from.
TIA!

I usually get my yarn from either AC Moore or Michael's.

Most of the time I buy from Michaels or AC Moore, but once in awhile I will order online from Joann or Herschnerrs if I can't find exactly what I'm looking for in the local stores.

Re: Where do you buy your yarn from?
it depends on what i'm looking for, what i'm making, and who i'm making it for.
if it's something that i know will be beat up, i'll use inexpensive yarn from ac moore or michaels (acrylic).
if i want to make something special and i want YUMMY yarn, i go to a lys (local yarn store)... that's where it gets expensive.
i've also bought online (very little).
if you're just getting back into it, i suggest you stick with michaels and ac moore for now. they have decent selections.
last thursday i bought (as my mothers day gift to myself) enough yarn to make a shawl i've been drooling over for a year. i bought 4 hanks of 100% undyed baby alpaca at woolbearers in mt holly, nj. let me just say: it is HEAVEN. i can't wait for the fall to wear it. cost me $15.95/hank: not something i would spend on yarn for an afghan for someone with pets.
