Yesterday...(Mother's Day)
How many of us were out, with DH but no kids, and got wished a Happy Mother's Day? I was ready to scream by the end of the day!! I actually at a waitress and said to DH as she walked away...What kind of mother would be out without her kids on Mother's Day? Sorry, it was just annoying to me to have such clueless people as DH was trying to his best to get my mind OFF of the fact it was Mother's Day.

I know, I had it happen at StopN Shop yesterday.
People are just trying to be polite, not realizing that Mother's Day is actually difficult for some.

I don't get offended - although I understand it may be difficult for some.
I feel like I am a godmother, an aunt and a dog-mommy . . . so far they don't have specific holidays for those roles so I will happily take Mother's Day and claim it as my own!

Same here, although I have to say that if I were facing IF, it would have been very difficult.
Some teenagers wished me a happy mother's day as I walked with my doggie. I said "thanks" - lol, not sure what else I could have said!

Re: Yesterday...(Mother's Day)
This happened to me at church after mass when we said hello to the priest. I felt really flustered since I have been dealing with IF for 4 years. And it took a lot for me to actually make it through the mass without breaking down, especially since they do a special blessing just for mothers at the end.

Re: Yesterday...(Mother's Day)
I was visiting someone in the hospital on Saturday, and the nurses wished me a Happy Mothers Day when I left. I didn't say anything, but it is still difficult even though I lost my mother 13 years ago now.
I don't think people do it to be malicious, they probably just don't realize since they might have not dealt with the death of parents or infertility.
It may sound cold, but being in this situation, I never ever wish people Happy (whatever) day. Even major holidays I really don't say anything to anyone if I don't know their exact situation; I know how times like these can be extra difficult for people or they may not 'believe' in whatever holiday is current.

its been difficult in the past, but I'm in a different place now, and it was easier. It used to annoy me, now it just goes overhead

Re: Yesterday...(Mother's Day)
I guess my big deal was that you can't say (God Forbid) Merry X-mas or Happy Hanukkah cause you might offend someone, but every woman of child bearing age needs to hear Happy Mother's Day...like I said, DH and I were out ALONE... Guess I'm just sensitive these days.

Re: Yesterday...(Mother's Day)
I was at the outlets making a very quick return and I got "you are out shopping on Mother's Day?" from the girl on the register! I said well, I'm not a mother and my mother lives 3,000 miles away.

I got a rose at Sears... I thought it was nice. He didn't wish me happy mother's day though.

I understand being sensitive about it.
I guess, that it doesn't bother me because in my family - it is celebrated as more of a woman's day. I get gifts for basically any female relative that isn't a child. I have two cousins that do not have kids and I get them small gifts because one is my godmother and the other was my confirmation sponser. Everyone also gets me gifts too - flowers or scratch offs. Ever since I was 15, DH has been buying me flowers for this day ( before I was ever a godmother or puppy mother too! ) so I always really enjoy the day.

Re: Yesterday...(Mother's Day)
To me, I just laugh it off and say yeah I'm a great mom to my cat!
But I can see how that can be hurtful to those who struggle with fertility issues or have lost a child.
So personally I'd never wish anyone a Happy Mother's Day that I didn't know- for that very reason.
