So am i wrong
for walking out of my ob's office today and telling them where to shove it??
I spent over an hour waiting in an exam room for my ob dr and she didn't even show up till i started telling the nurse that i was leaving and the nurse was trying to stop me. I mean come on now, i'm almost 37 weeks. They said they didn't plan on doing a sono and all that they were going to do was check the baby's hearrate. Why would you leave a pregnant lady alone in an exam room for over an hour. I left there crying and don't even want to go back. It's such a big practice and as it is i've had issues with blood/lab work being lost on more than one occassion, them not updating my records correctly. Shouldn't there be some sort of common curtesy to not leave someone alone in a room waiting for you for over an hour. They said there was an emergency, then how come when i went out and found one of the other 20 something nurses they said that they would find my nurse and get back to me, and no one told me anything. I just so wish i could find another place to go to where i am actually treated like a person and not just a number

Re: So am i wrong
No, you are not wrong. I remember how stressful it can be when you are that far along, to be left waiting for an hour in the exam room is unacceptable. At least you are almost there! You can switch practices after the baby comes

Re: So am i wrong
No i dont think your wrong, i do think if there was an emergency someone should have come in to tell you or another dr should have been able to squeeze you in.
So my question now is how comfortable do you feel about switching dr being 37 weeks pregnant?

At this point, if i could find a dr that would take me i would switch in a heartbeat. I have been unhappy with this practice for a while and looked into switching at about 26-30 weeks and most practices wouldnt take me because i was high risk with my other pregnancies, but not with this one. So i was a liability. So i figured i would suck it up and deal with this place. But there's only so much you can deal with especially when it takes you 4 days to get back your test results and get a prescription called in when you need it because the nurses are backed up.

you were not wrong.
would i have walked out? no - i would've stood outside my 'door' until someone gave enough of a crap to ask me what was wrong....or i would've opened my door and shot a nasty look at ANYONE walking by....
are you okay going back there????

At this point i dont even want to go back there. I'm still soo upset and crying over it.
and i did stand outside my door and ask a bunch of people who were walking by and was nasty to the nurses at the station also, all to get the same, someone will be with you in 5 minutes reply I hate them all. (sure part of it is pregnancy hormones talking, but a big part of it is the fact that they can't treat people with decency and common curtesty.)

Re: So am i wrong
I spend 45 mins on average at my old practice (after like an hour in the waiting room!!) and the same thing has happened twice at my new Dr.
And I say good for you for walking about ... I just sit there all ****** off and sweating.

Re: So am i wrong
I don't blame you for being upset! I think you have every right as a patient, pregnant or not to be unhappy with such a wait. I feel your pain - I was in Madonna Perinatal for a sonogram and consultation for 3 and a half hours last week! Can we say LIVID?! It's like doctors just don't care about our schedules...but then they act sometimes as if YOU'RE the one wasting their time when they finally see you! Luckily my regular OB isn't like this. I'm sorry you had a bad experience

Re: So am i wrong
i don't think you are wrong, i don't get why they do that...i usually wait at least a 1/2 hour in the waiting room just to pee, get weighed and my bp checked and at my last visit i waited in the exam room for at least a 1/2 hour for the md to come in and check heartbeat for 1 minute and leave...they shut the door so i wonder if they forgot about me, but i just sit there and wait

Re: So am i wrong
You are absolutely RIGHT for throwing a fit about it! An hour is UNACCEPTABLE...especially just for a heartrate check at 37 WEEKS!!
What office do you go to? Just curious, because it sounds a lot like the old place I used to go before I switched.

Re: So am i wrong
it's one thing to be waiting outside in the waiting area....b/c for some reason Ob/gyn are ALWAYS running late but for you to be sitting IN the room for an hour, especially at 37 weeks is NOT OK. I would've put up a stink too.

I go to stony brook ob/gyn.
The office as a whole just sucks. no matter which of the many dr's or np's i see. And i figured i would atleast get a phone call but nothing. So i'm activlely trying to find someplace else to go since i hate them soooo much. But i think at 37 weeks i'm kinda screwed

Just wanted to give you some . So sorry you are going through this and I do hope it can be resolved. If you cannot find another ob to switch to this late, might you or DH give a call to an office manager to address the situation and request some better treatment for three weeks?

I'm sorry that happened to you. You are a better person than I am though b/c after 20 mins I would have caused a scene. An hour in an exam room without seeing someone is obscene!

Re: So am i wrong
I totally feel what you are going through. Last night I waited 1 hour in the waiting room, followed by a 1 hour wait in the exam room. It's ridiculous! I am also in a larger practice and have been unhappy and have wanted to switch for a long time, but never made the jump. Now I am almost 34 weeks and feel like it is too late and am mad at myself!

Re: So am i wrong
what u did it fine, will they still deliver you?
i used to go to a big pratice at north shore i was never preggo there but would go for normal exams it would be a2hr process and the dr would see me for 2mins and not even want to answer my questions, sometimes i had emergencys like bleeding for weeks or utis and they would refuse to see me for like 2months hello i am in pain i need help, she even assigned birth control over the phone. so when i knew i wanted to get pregnant i switched to a small office and its the best thing i ever did, they actually remember you get back to you within the hour. waiting there is about an 1hr of going in and coming out, and the dr is a sweetiepie there is a wait bc she spends time with her patients and shows she cares. if you want info fm me best of luck.
i too left the old gyno cursing them off.
