Any Firms looking for Lawyers?
My cousin who I am verrry close with just got laid off yesterday after being with his firm for over 2 years. I guess as the saying goes, last one hired, first one laid off, and to put it mildly he is devastated over losing a job that he loved so much. I was hoping I could ask here if anyone knows of any openings in NY or NJ?
TY
ETA: He is in corporate Law

Re: Any Firms looking for Lawyers?
Corporate law has really taken a beating lately, but some firms are starting to pick up.
His best bet is to reach out to legal recruiters. I know a couple of names in NYC if he is looking in that area. They normally have jobs available in NY and surrounding areas, too (Long Island, New Jersey, etc.)
Market is very slow right now, though. How much experience does he have? Did he go to a top school?

Re: Any Firms looking for Lawyers?
The market is really bad right now. I am in the corp. and finance dept of my firm and the people that already got laid off here (50% of my group) have been unable to find anything yet and it has been over 3 months for them. Your cousin should try reaching out to recruiters -- I know a few and there are a few jobs that pop up in corporate and if he already has contact with the recruiters hopefully they will think of him first. But unfortunately he is competing against lots of other corp. people that have recently been laid off for a very small number of jobs.
Is he able to retool to another practice group? If he is only a second year associate can he possibly sell himself as bankruptcy?

Re: Any Firms looking for Lawyers?
There are so many different areas that fall under corporate law. However, I think that recruiters are the way to go for people who are already out of school and looking for jobs in most areas of corporate law. I'm sure he is checking the NYLJ postings already but I would also say to look there.
