How do you know your baby is teething?
Like, REALLY teething.
A week ago, my Ped said she wasn't yet. But she is a misery! She has been drooling like crazy for a while now, her hands are constantly in her mouth, and anything i give her-- goes straight to the mouth as well.
Today especially, she is not content for more than 5 mins at a time. Nothing is working to keep her happy. Everything i try works for 5 mins, she is happy and smiling/laughing. After that, all hell breaks loose. then i have to calm her which takes 20 mins or so, then we find something else to do which works. repeat.
I am dying here-- what is wrong? is she just making me insane for no reason?
eta-- and she is waking up a lot at night too.

Chels went through a stage where she seriously miserable her gums were swollen, it happend a week before her 5 month check up ped did say her gumds were swollen but nothing peeking through yet, and that it could be on and off pain for a while so it could be just the start..Chels' hands are constantly in her mouth and drool, isn't the word she's more like a fountain of saliva at this point

Re: How do you know your baby is teething?
this happened with DS, while he is teething ((you can see a tiny white spot)).. my ped. said it was gas, and to give him mylicon drops with every feeding for 5 days straight and see if he starts feeling better. This worked wonders! I swear one second he would be giggling the next crying, but apparently it was gas lol.
Maybe try that and see if it works for you too?? Teething stinks, I swear you just never know when there teething, because my DS looks like he has been teething since 2 months and hes 5 months and nothing yet.

Re: How do you know your baby is teething?
When my daughter got her first 2 teeth she was drooling a lot and had a reallyyyyy runny nose. She wasnt that cranky. She had only like 2 bad days and that was it. Oragel seemed to work wonders too!!! She loved it. Have you tried that?

Re: How do you know your baby is teething?
Drooling and putting everything in their mouth are normal parts of their development. The crankiness sounds like it's related to teething though. DS had a miserable week last week. He's normally a very happy baby, but he cried a lot (the kind of cry like he was in pain) and nothing could console him. He's better this week although he hasn't cut any teeth yet.
I use the Hyland's teething tablets when he gets really fussy. They seem to help.

Re: How do you know your baby is teething?
With DS, I always knew he was majorly teething when his sleeping habits went to crap! All of a sudden he would wake up in the middle of the night and his sleep was all out of whack. This plus the drool and hands shoved in the mouth!

Re: How do you know your baby is teething?
Liam just cut his first tooth on Monday.
He's been drooling, sucking on his hands, knawing on things, etc since he's been 3 mos.
His gums really started swelling about 1 week before he cut. He was cranking every 5 mos and woke up 3x two days before he cut.
Keep in mind, babies learn by putting everything in their mouths. This is how the experience the world.
Sasha may be teething. Can you feel anything with your finger? Are the gums swollen?
We haven't used any teething tablets or tylenol. Luckily, we didn't have to, but I def. thought about it

Re: How do you know your baby is teething?
My ped said the only way to know for sure, is in hindsight when the teeth start poking through. DD has been showing signs of teething since 3.5 months...drooling, everything in her mouth, periods of unexplained fussiness. Still no teeth. she still loves to suck on her teethers though.

Re: How do you know your baby is teething?
According to Lily's doctor, the only way to know they're teething is when "little white things start poking through their gums". All of the other behaviors associated with teething *might* be signs, but they're also developmentally appropriate behaviors.
