Betamethasone Injection
Has anyone had this steriod injection to help the lung developement of the baby?? I am now 28 weeks pregnant with the triplets and have to get it tomorrow the Dr suggested it because my cervix is shortening and they are worried I will go into pre-term labor.
TIA

Re: Betamethasone Injection
I had it when I was in the hospital for preclampsia. It's a two day shot, very easily administered.

Re: Betamethasone Injection
My babies were born at 34.5 weeks and everything was fine with their breathing.
Dont make the doctors scare you, they just have to give you every possible scenario in case something should happen.
I remember the day before I had my twins the doctor even said that everything 'should' be ok with there lungs.

Re: Betamethasone Injection
hi.. i had a preterm labor scare at 26 weeks and got these shots. they give you one a day for two days.
i've been on bedrest ever since, and did have some labor scares for which i was given magnesium sulfate to stop contractions, but the good news is, I'm now 33 weeks and still pregnant and my twins are growing well at almost 5 lbs each now!
I know it's not easy, but try not to worry. There is so much they can do to prolong pregnancy these days- catching the problem early is half the battle.

Re: Betamethasone Injection
I had it at 30 weeks because I had preterm contractions. They were born at 37w5d and no breathing issues. I had had an amnio the day before though to check for lung maturity.

Re: Betamethasone Injection
I got it at 33 weeks and my boys were born at 36 weeks with no breathing issues. The shots stung pretty bad....they go into your buttock and your feel it right in the muscle. Bring someone along to hold there hand. The nurses were great though.

This sounds like what I went through. Drink a lot of water and take it easy! If you feel any kind of cramping again, be sure to call the dr.
I was in the hospital at 30 weeks and had the same thoughts as you - hoping to make it to 33... At 35 weeks I was back in the hospital again with contractions, but still never dilated. At 37w5d I had a scheduled c-sec. While waiting for the surgery, the contractions started AGAIN - strong and regular, but still no dilating! Hang in there!

Re: Betamethasone Injection
My friend had twin girls born at 29 weeks. They were in the NICU for a long time and were very small at birth(3.2 and 2.12) but now are healthy, happy and 3.5 years old. My boys were born at 35 weeks and 1 of my sons was on CPAP for 6 days and my other son was only on it for 1. They are great now. Girls tend to do better than boys but even at 29 weeks their prognosis is excellent
