How to dress an infant
I need a good article to forward my mother. She has the tendency to overbundle our DD. Our pediatrician has said that we must dress the baby as we would dress ourself plus one extra layer. My mother usually puts three layers or more. This is obviously not good because it can overheat the baby and is one of the factors that can cause sids. Though she is very well intentioned she does not quite get it. We tell her not to do this but low and behold when DD is my mothers care she has on three layers and is sweating. She also thinks that a ceiling fan will cause DD to get a cold as well. It's a strange European phenomena that my parents have brought back from their country...that draft will kill you. (two windows can never be open in the car at one time and they hate air conditioner and ice in their drinks) Mind you my mother still believes that most info from the 70s is still relevant. I need some evidence to show my mother from a reputable source. TIA

and while you're bothering your ped, tell them to also write down other stupid stuff your parents disagree with..... no sleeping on stomach, no eating solids at 3 months.....

Curious what country is your mom from because my dad, FIL and grandmothers all say the same thing about baby's getting sick from a draft
Now that it is getting warmer out I would just give her some rompers or onsies to put the baby in. Or you could give her onsie and pants. Carter's makes those really cute summer shortsleeve sets. You can put her in dresses too. I would just try and give her clothes that she really can't over dress your daughter in.

OMG! I could have written this word for word, it def is a strange european thing, my mother does the same thing, on the 80 degree days she puts a light blanket on her outside since there is wind...

Newsday had an article a few weeks ago about a new book written by a pediatrician from Schenider's that refutes (or proves) lots of old wives' tales. I am going to look for it now....will post when I find it.
This isn't the one I was lookng for but might be helpful...

My MIL does the same thing. You should see the thick blankets she bought him back at the end of May. You would think that it was the middle of winter and that we didn't have heating. We keep our house very comfortable at 70-75 degrees!

Thank you so much for your input. My Nona and mother swear that this draft can kill you. As far as I know many europeans belive in this phenomena.
p.s. I am still alive even using AC and putting ice in my drinks and keeping two windows open while driving. My family swears that I will cause myself a deadly pneumonia.

Thats really tough. I don't have any advice but I hope you can get the message across nicely. I have had several situations that are awkward for me to bring to both my parents and my mil's attention.
