Registry tip...

Those who are new to registering...

I wanted to share because I feel like I learned my lesson...I put SO MUCH on there, by the time my shower rolled around, there was too much to choose from...and I hardly got the necessities. I got a lot of stuff, nice things, but I still had a ton on there and luckily I got gift cards to help me purchase things. But, just a tip - put on there the basics and necessities vs. tons of cutesy things and / or every little thing you see in Babies R Us or Buy Buy Baby! HTH Chat Icon

Re: Registry tip...

I've got to say, I really only put the necessities (maybe 50 items?), but people still bought tons of outfits and I didn't get any crib sheets, crib mattress pads, bassinet sheets...Chat Icon Guess those aren't the "fun" gifts! I made a big trip to BRU with my gift cards to get all the necessities I didn't get.

I put necessities only, no "fun" stuff, and am team GREEN, so it was nice because I got mostly useful stuff...few clothes (which is good because we have some already) and lots of gift cards...IMO, much more helpful than a bunch of outfits

Of course my mom the pediatrician gave me this advice before registering Chat Icon

Exactly I got not one crib sheet, mattress pad, etc..that's what I mean. Its fun to get the cute stuff but don't overload your list with odds and ends!

i have to agree....

EVERYONE will get you the cutesy stuff - do NOT put onesies on the registries...you'll get plenty of that....

put what you need and let others add their own 'cute' things...

Re: Registry tip...

ITA!!! i followed that advice and ALL, and I mean every single one of the necessities, were purchased. The ONLY things DH and I bought was the crib, dresser and mattress. the pack n play, swing, high chair, car seat, stroller, all that stuff was bought off the registry... plus we still got cute things that we love that we didn't' register for.

my SIL on the other hand had a registry with over 100 things... and got hardly anything and what she did get was the cheapy stuff.

Re: Registry tip...

I did that but I am finding that even the necessity items are not coming off my registry (shower is next Saturday), so I am getting concerned. Even our infant seat has YET to be purchased. I feel that no matter what is on your registry, people tend to buy what "they" want...

Re: Registry tip...

This makes me feel so much better- I only have 40 things on mine, but I just don't want a ton of stuff cluttering up my house!

I'm glad you said this because that was my plan all along.

Then a few people told me that I didn't have enough on my registry and got me worried.

Re: Registry tip...

I didn't register for any clothing, just a cute little cable knit sweater and a yankees outfit DH insisted on, I think I received about 50 little one piece outfits at my shower! We still got the necessities, but just wanted to let you know that people will still buy you clothing, I wouldn't recommend putting it on your registry.

If you don't mind, I'll add to the tips.

Register even if you are not having a shower. It's a way of keeping track of what you want & often times places give discounts after the date expires.

I registered at Pottery Barn for 4th of July when I bought something last year.Chat Icon

Re: Registry tip...

as our shower gets closer ive been thinking about this A LOT!

FH put a lot of clothing/layette stuff on the registry and I dont think we needed to. I took MOST of it off and only added onsies and a couple other select things. Most people wont buy clothes directly off the registry anyway, theyll pick whatever they think is cute!

Re: Registry tip...

It's funny I recently edited our registry for this reason. I feel like I would see things and be like OOOH I WANT THAT and realized that maybe just the stuff we really need should be on there so I edited it!
