Nah...I mean you brought a card and gave a gift at the shower. You could have brought a little something, but I am sure they arent offended that you didnt!

Honestly, if you are close enough to go to the hospital ( which IMO should only be reserved for family and friends who are like family ) then I do think that you should bring a gift.

Would bringing a gift have been nice? Sure. Is a gift ever necessary or to be expected? I certainly hope not. If you feel bad bring a little something to her home or send something but don't feel obligated.

The ONLY thing I bring to the hospital when I visit a new mom is food- and it was really the only thing I really appreciated when people visited me.
Honestly, gifts are sweet- but it's just one more thing to lug home from the hospital. I think giving a card was a very nice gesture.

Thanks for the replies. It was my first time (as an adult) visting someone (besided my own mom) at the hospital after a baby was born.

I never bring gifts to the hospital, figure they have enough to bring home what with the baby and all. I do send either flowers or an edible arrangemet to the house the day I know they are coming home and if I go to their to visit, bring a gift then. Of course, this is for close friends only, not just people I am friendly with.

I personally would have brought a little something -- or, my usual MO, which is to send flowers or a little something to the house the day the baby comes home... but I certainly don't think anyone would be offended that you didn't bring a gift. I think it was nice you brought a card. If this is a close friend and you will be visiting at the home soon, I'd probably bring a little something then.

I usually tell them that their "gift" from me is that i will make their baby announcements...but these are only very good friends that i even go visit...you brought a card...that was thoughtful...no one gave me gifts when i got either of my dogs...haha
