Shaken by something I saw
So- being a mom to a toddler and a baby, the bulk of my TV watching is pretty kid friendly so I get most of my news from the paper and here.
I went to the gym today and watched CNN coverage of the Iranian protests while I did cardio. One of the stories contained the video footage of the death of a young woman at one of the rallies.
The video I was saw completely uneditted and was incredibly unsettling. I had to stop doing what I was doing to take it in fully and then to regain my composure because I was in such shock at what I was witnessing.
My thoughts today are with that woman's family, especially her father who was trying in vain to stop her bleeding. I cannot imagine living through what the people in Iran are living through right now. I know we all have our issues with the current state of affairs in this country- but I am so thankful for what we DO have.

Re: Shaken by something I saw
I know It's horrific over there right now.. Sorry you felt that way.. I know at the gym it's hard to not watch bc their TV's are everywhere, this is why I just take my ipod and turn my feel good music up and not even look at the TV's while I'm at the gym.

Re: Shaken by something I saw
The Iranians are finally trying to evoke a mass movement to oust their greedy/horrible leaders. This is what a mass uprising looks like - dirty/ugly and completely raw. I feel horrible for all the death and destruction but feel amazed how strong these people have been in order to get their government back to the people.
I hope the election business will be sorted out and that anyone who was caught "treating" will be dealt with. I also feel for the people who are caught in the middle of this.

Re: Shaken by something I saw
i know exactly what video you're talking about -- that particular woman has become a symbol of the violence happening in the protests in Iran.
i saw on CNN that there is a facebook page about her with information and such, but i don't remember her name cause the tv was on mute in my office when they showed it.
its a horrible video to watch her die right in front of your eyes
ETA: Her name was Neda Salehi Agha Soltani

Her name was Neda Soltani. I read about her and the video in the Daily News this morning. The photos I saw were disturbing enough; I can't imagine watching the video.

Re: Shaken by something I saw
It's a horrible image but I'm glad it's out there for people to see exactly what the iranian government is doing to it's citizens. I hope she is at peace and something good can come from her senseless death

Wow
Some stories say Neda was 16, and some say 26 or 27... she looks older in the pictures of her....

Re: Shaken by something I saw
the whole situation in Iran is horrible! but I am very glad that these protestors are revolting against their oppressive and corrupt regime. they want a better life, not one ruled by the iron fist of a psychotic president who in reality, is a puppet for the radical mullahs.
I hope they succeed and that all these deaths are not in vein.

Re: Shaken by something I saw
I'm not sure this is the same video but the 2nd revolution of Iran seems underway.
CAUTION - EXTREAMLY GRAPHIC
I can only pray that things get better but I don't think they will.
Harkens back to the 4 Kent State university students who died at the hands of the National Guard... May 4th 1970... Things changed after that. A reasonable government "of the people, by the people, for the people"

I saw this video yesterday...it sickens me. I hope that the message gets out even as foreigh press is expelled from the streets of Iran. Opression and senseless death like this should not and cannot happen in this media age without people seeing it. There is NO excuse for turning our backs anymore.
