Any ideas?

I think it may be a good thing, no?

I hope it's a good thing. I am not a fan of the way he did mayoral control (too dictatorial and too much emphasis on scores, for starters) but I also think that the 32 district system left a lot to be desired. Though under the districts/regions it seemed like we had more support, even if the presence of admins was a bit annoying.

So many of my kids passed the ELA and while I didn't want any of them to fail, the reality is that some of them are so behind and they should have failed. As a result, though, 1) Bloomy got the scores he needed to be able to sell the continuation of mayoral control to the public and 2) far fewer kids in summer school, saving money. I had lots of kids who needed summer school but won't go because they don't have to.

ETA- my students' math teacher found the same thing- everyone passed but several kids could not do the work.

We've definitely "dumbed down" and "skewed" the data for ourselves (the mayor, really) and I think what we really need is a good TEAM of business and education backed people...I think the combination of both is necessary..we are also too large...32 small districts where so many are so different is always a recipe for disaster, especially when they want everything uniform and the city is such a diverse place..I guess we just have to wait and see...
