Sorta spinoff: Should adults without DC have to watch their language?

One thing that wasn't brought up in any of the discussions about DC in "adult environments" is conversations and language. Should adults without kids be forced to curb their discussions (not disgusting topics, just topics that kids shouldn't hear) and/or language just because a parent brought their kids around?

As a parent, I think it's up to me to explain to my DC what words I think they can and can't use. I never expect other people (except immediate family, or guests in my own home) to watch their language around my kids.

As a person who does not have children and doesnt plan on having any, I think as a common courtesy people that do not have children of their own should watch their language when children are around. I dont think that just b/c a person doesnt have children gives them the right to say whatever they want at all times. Certain circumstances require a person to refrain from use of certain behaviors.

Before I had my son I never cursed around children..and still don't, however its MORE tempting too do so now

I just think its common courtesy. It's not appropriate to curse in front of kids, just one of those things!

I don't curse in public unless I am furious about something. And even then it is controlled. It would have to be something really major for me to use that kind of language in the presence of strangers. I don't curb my language for the benefit of kids, I don’t make a habit out of cursing period, b/c I feel that it's classless to drop F bombs in conversation.

While I try my best to curb my language and actions around children, I think there are some places that aren't appropriate for children due to violence and the nature of the event. But some parents don't realize or care about this and bring their children anyway.

I see this at least 3 or 4 times a year at Islander/Ranger games. These games are known for foul language, fighting in the stands, etc. It never fails that someone will bring a kid - then get pizzed off when people scream obsenities, fight, etc. When I goto these games, I walk in knowing that I'm going to hear the F bomb (and worse), I might get beer thrown on me, puked on, or possibly clocked in the face.

Sorry, parent but you can't bring your child to an Islander/Ranger game expect them to hear clean language. And if by chance you came to just this game by mistake - then leave. I bet if you went to Customer Service, told them your dilemma, they would probably give you free tickets to another game.

I do the same thing in reverse. When they have their "Kid's Day" games, I sell or give away my tickets - because I can't stand the constant screaming and kicking. And if for some reason I do goto a Kids Day game, I don't have a hissy fit when the kid next to me is screaming his head off or Johnny is kicking my chair constantly. It's expected for that time and event, I signed up for it. So I deal with it, or leave.

I totally agree... even in Disneyland I try to curb my language!

I always curb my language and subject matter around children, voluntarily.

I try to curb my language in general. I am a teacher and I don't like walking around

speaking like a truck driver! Behind closed doors all bets are off! My DH is terrible and is always

getting yelled at by family for cursing around the kids. Do I like it? No

but honestly I think he can speak however he likes, its who he is!

More alarming is when adults WITH DC do not watch their language!

I try to curb my sailor mouth if children are around but sometimes old habits die very hard and a few winners slip out.
Sometimes I don't even realize I am cursing that is how bad it's gotten.

And in a public place, it sometimes can't be helped....
